Need a good mattress in Zurich

Hi,
Been thru all posts on Mattresses in Zurich, but still confused and now nursing a very bad back... I may have to soon go in for physiotheraphy....

I bought a SULTAN FINNVIK mattress (160 x 200) from Ikea on 17th Feb. The mattress which is on display in Ikea (Dietlikon) is quite firm but the one which I bought has turned out to be a flop. It gets too soft at night with 2 people sleeping on it. I went back to Ikea and was told that there are two different manufacturers of the FINNVIK mattress and in all probability, the serial number of the piece I have could be the "softer" batch. When I went home and checked, I found that the 160 x 200 mattress I have is indeed the "harder" batch, and should not sag / feel uncomfortable...

So, my questions:
1. Is the Ikea Sultan FINNVIK indeed the best mattress to buy? My budget is 1000-1100 CHF.

2. Do you recommend to buy two mattresses of 80 X 200 size, instead of one larger mattress? I am not a very sound sleeper, neither am I disturbed by the body movements of my partner. I was told that it would be better to have a mattress each for each side of the bed

3. I need a hard mattress - as I have been having some back problems now. Where in Zurich would one buy a good mattress (1000 - 1100 CHF budget per matteress) - I would need 2 as I have 2 beds.

4. I have looked at Concorde Mattress shop, but I am not sure which brand to go in for - Vitalis, SF Contact, Bico....

5. Which type to buy - Kaltschaum, Spring, Latex? My requirement is a hard mattress, which is firm and does not sag. My body weight is 77 Kg and I am 5 feet, 9 inches tall.

Thanks and regards
A

Re: Need a good mattress in Zurich

Same situation here: bought an Ikea mattress but I found it too soft after some usage.

Looking for something harder, heavier, long-lasting.

Went to Concord mattresses as well but found them not up to the standard that I want. Any suggestions from someone in the forum?

Looking to spend up to 2K CHF.

Conforama usually sucks for most things, but check out this mattress:

http://www.conforama.ch/produit_en-m...0_42136_201097

I'd drop by one of their stores and try it out. The girlfriend and I did our research before buying it, and it really is worth it. Really firm, but comfortable. It was the top-ranked mattress under 1000 CHF by www.bonasavoir.ch (I can't find the link to the article anymore). The only two mattresses better than it cost 1800+.

Re: Need a good mattress in Zurich

Ok.

I finally bought the mattresses from Concord. The VITALIS brand. I chose 2 mattresses (160 x 200) - the H3 hardness grade. These were the firmest I could get - VITALIS Trio H3 and VITALIS Dream Plus H3

I was advised by the lady at Concorde to avoid "Memory Foam" or "Viscose foam" as it is not good for people with back problems.

Concord has expensive mattresses as well, but I found them to be too soft as well.

Anyway, these two mattresses come with a 10 year guarantee and I got a 25% discount on the VITALIS mattresses - some offer related to 25 years of Concord's operations.

I also purchased an orthopaedic pillow for myself.

I am sleeping much comfortably now. I am happy I returned the Ikea mattress for a refund.

Cheers,
A

Hello Amit,

How is the mattress you bought? Is still hard and good?
I'm planning to buy a similar mattress as the one you described. Was is very expensive?

Many thanks in advance,

LL

I have the cheapest Ikea mattress as it is the hardest that I tried out but I don't know what the name of it is. It is really hard however but it is great if you have a bad back as my back problems have gone. I have had for a year and still very stiff.

Re: Need a good mattress in Zurich

Lluhu,
The mattreses i got from CONCORD are quite good. Costed me approx 900 CHF a piece + transport.

Much better than the ones at ikea - ikea may give you a 25 year warranty, but thats no good if you need a hard mattress. also make sure you get good slats for your bed as mattress won't give you the firmness without them.

Cheers,
A
