South Africans?-What do I/dont I bring with?

Help! .Not sure if this is country specific.
Im pretty clueless. We are moving to Fribourg in October and Im only getting to the nitty gritty of the little things now..I know I dont bring the braai () .
Do I bring my lamps? Appliances? etc etc...(We've heard random things like: "bed's are very pricey" )
What would be totally pointless to haul along ? (Ie: totally useless?).
Thanks in advance for the help.

Someone was asking the exact same question last week: clicky.

Have a look at some furniture stores on the web for prices. If you search the forums for "furniture" you'll find some threads with links to most of the furniture store websites and then you can get an idea of what things cost.

The braai is the MOST important thing to bring - we use our Weber all the time. Another good thing to bring is a skottel - we eventually found a local supplier but it cost us a small fortune.

Good Luck with your move

Re: South Africans?-What do I/dont I bring with?

Sorry to hijack this, but NatsBrit, could I ask you to post the details here if you think they'll be relevant or PM me otherwise please:

could you please let us know where you got your skottel from locally? We're moving in October to Vaud and are debating getting a skottel here in the UK. Cadac's suppliers here are charging £130 for a skottel with all the extras....how does that compare to what you paid over there?

Thanks!
G

If you want to impress your new Swiss neighbours with an African Fondue Chinois... bring a potjie.

Send Rooibos over in containers, they have it here but it's full of spices. They have good braais here, anyway whatever happened to the half-drum?

Hi

We bought in 2004 for Chf 175.00 from Propana (www.propana.ch).

I would suggest you don't bring the gas bottle though cause they are slightly different here.

Hope this helps
Cheers
Nats
