Old Laptop to dispose of

Hi,
I am leaving CH, so have an old Dell laptop to dispose of. Modem is broken but otherwise works fine. Anyone know where I could take it to get recycled, or otherwise where I could dump it? (in Basel)

I saw an old closed thread about someone in Zurich who could recycle them, so if anyone knows about that, please let me know.

Cheers

Re: Old Laptop to dispose of

You can advertise it under Free Stuff or FS, or alternatively dump in the the nearest Fust, MediaMarkt or any other electrical retailer who are bound to accept it under SWICO rules ( all costs of recycling has been prepaid ). These retailers will send it elsewhere to be recycled.

Hi Zozo, I have a friend who would love a computer/laptop for herself and kids, but can't afford it right now. Do you think she can buy an external modem and then connect like that? I will send you a message. Thanks!

We have a really old laptop and newer but not really new PC ( with monitor and keyboard) that we don't use anymore.
Will ask OH if he'd be happy to donate them.

I don't know for sure if it would be of any use, but I have a brand new Swisscom
Centro Granda modem in the attic that I don't need ( I moved and they sent me a new one and I never got around to returning it) so the friend of Manley would be welcome to have it. Is someone is up to co-ordinating that? Am happy to add to the donation.

You can have them both. The laptop I could probably post but the rest of the stuff you'd have to arrange to collect from near Neuchatel. I could possibly arrange to get it to Delemont if it would be easier from there but would need to check with my friend first.

Re: Old Laptop to dispose of

Hi, sorry for the delay in getting back, as I had some wifi problems. It's very kind of you, I am seeing my friend later today and will tell her about it,and see if she needs one/both. It would be great if you could organize sending it/them with a friend to Delemont, as otherwise it's quite far (we live near Basel)

Sorry to be cheeky, but how old are they both? Can they both be used for internet?

Thank you again. I really appreciate it.

Re: Old Laptop to dispose of

Hi Belgianmum

I spoke to my friend and she was delighted at the possibility. Do you mind me asking how old both are? Maybe if one is in good condition and can be used for internet, she would only need one. I have just checked on swisspost and notice the rates are very reasonable for posting thing within Switzerland - we both live in France, but I work in Basel so should be able to arrange sending there. A laptop normally weighs less than 10 kilos, but a desktop computer might be stretching it a bit - I notice that even up to 30 kilos prices for posting are reasonable. She/I would of course send you the postage, in advance if we could estimate it. Send me a private message if you prefer.

Look forward to hearing from you.

I just wanted to say a public thank you to belgianmum, who posted me the computer, very carefully wrapped, and my friend was absolutely delighted with it.
