Digital photo prints in Basel

Hi All -

I am looking to make some prints for some of my digital photos. Does anyone know of a good place that is also reasonably priced in Basel?

Thanks,
R

Aldi have rave reviews, and are cheap and quick, http://www.aldi-suisse-photos.ch/index.php?id=home&L=de

Re: Digital photo prints in Basel

Hi - I bring my quickly-done-to-be-quickly-printed pictures to interdiscount: the service is ok priced and they normally deliver fast.
I've had some problems with migros in the past (smudgy ink), but that was also fast&cheap.
I normally bring the pictures I really care about (especially film rolls) to Germany, more specifically here cause they're just excellent.

I've used Ifocolor

Not in Basel but Swiss web-based.

Good service and English language website option if required.

Re: Digital photo prints in Basel

A little bit off subject, but I bought a Cannon Selphy CP800 photo printer last week and it's very good. The printer is currently on sale at M-Electronic's for Fr 130.- instead of the RRP of Fr 150.-. The paper/ ink combo cost Fr 49.- for 108 photos, which isn't a bad price if you are just using the printer on a casual basis. The photo quality is very good.

Re: Digital photo prints in Basel

Hi All,
Over the summer I witnessed the attached rainbow, and want to print it out large for the Gemeindeverwaltung office. (This is a stitch of several photos from the moment, but otherwise is real.)

For posterity, I'll try a few of the services mentioned above and report back on quality and overall service.

How quickly can someone recognize this famous location near Basel?

Re: Digital photo prints in Basel

So I tried to order test prints from a few of these services for a 30 x 90 cm poster via their online services (no downloaded/installed software), and can offer a few comments:

** ALDI
[ http://www.aldi-suisse-photos.ch/ in partnership with http://www.medion.com/ch/ ]
Pleasantly surprised with quality of the print (better of the 2 prints I ordered) but was frustrated with the limited options for a panorama poster. ALDI will only print on paper, not a framed or otherwise reinforced wide format.

But they do offer "leinwand" options for basic formats and the print quality should again be good.

Price, including shipping was not bad <CHF 15, but the way they reveal the actual full cost is annoying .... doubling the price with an unreasonable CHF 7 shipping fee late in the ordering process. Overall a low price, to be certain, but left me with a really unnecessary sense of deceit ... trying to hide some of the true cost of the print in the exceptionally high shipping cost, in order to headline with a ridiculously low advertised cost-per-print.

I'd be a happier customer seeing a realistically low cost-per-print around CHF 12 without the shipping surprise.

Online service/app: Java app that is quite rough around the edges. I was really frustrated with their inefficient, online java app. Easy to get lost, difficult to get back to photos you've already loaded to their site, so lots of repetitive re-loading of the same photo, steps in the process that didn't load correctly or consistently in the app (such as cropping the image to fit the available dimensions). I could manage in the end, but quite frustrating.

** Fujifilm
Nice options all around, including the above postershop which offers (too?) many options for panorama prints and posters. The prices even for prints is quite a bit higher than for ALDI, but the shipping fee was less than ALDI's. Overall nearly CHF 40, so nearly 3 x the ALDI price, and the print quality was worse.

Print quality was OK, prices are quite high, but if you really need a panorama print for wall hanging, Fujifilm can deliver.

Online service/app: straightforward, without the ALDI comparison, it might have seemed rough around the edges, but by comparison it was polished and easy to use.

* iFolor
Could not find a panorama format print option in Dec-2012, so did not order a print from iFolor.

Re: Digital photo prints in Basel

iFolor looks interesting, will be ordering from them next time.

I would strongly advise people to avoid ALDI. Not only a dated and inefficiante service, also horrible customer service (think Google translated replies, as no one there speaks French or English, it seems), it was also much more expensive ordering from Instacanvas (US), when they offered, beirfly, delivery in Europe (from Ireland).

The quality of ALDIs prints is atrocious, both print and the quality of the material they use. Will be happy to upload a photo of an ALDI print side-by-side with Instacanvas.

We use Snapfish for both photo prints and photo books. Nice quality, good prices.

Re: Digital photo prints in Basel

Hi All,
I know this is an old post but I came upon it as I was wondering where to print photos in Zug. As always, the forum has the answers , so I went off to InterDiscount to print my photos. Managed to navigate my way through the German on the machine (fortunately it had good symbols & pictures as my German is horrendous). Got to the end feeling proud of myself and then nothing happened! No photos printed. So I had to seek help and discovered that you need to print a receipt from the machine, pay the cashier, then enter the code from the till receipt into the photo machine to print the photos.
The photos were very glossy. Not sure if there was a Matt option and my limited German missed it. Some seemed to have a brownish tinge to them, but they were fine for the purposes of sending to friends and family. Cost was 50 cents each and I printed 19.
