Google shows St Ursula's in Interlaken as an English speaking church. I think you'll be hard pressed to find the happy clappy stuff, it's not that widespread in Switzerland.

Re: Looking for Praise-hand-clapping church near Interlaken

You don't have an awfully big choice of English speaking churches in Switzerland generally - even less in somewhere obscure like Interlaken. You've basically got a choice of Church of England (Episcopalian) or International (ecumenical protestant types) with a few small congregations scattered around which you'll get to hear about by word-of-mouth.

Your best bet might be to contact these chaps. They're based in Bern, but they might know of a suitable congregation nearer to where you are.

Welcome to the forum, by the way! Why don't you pop over to the Introductions section and tell us a bit more about yourself?

That would be an ecumenical matter

You give your location as USA - so maybe this one is nearer .....
..... although I think the Preacher is no longer with us (plus a couple of the congregation, too).

I don't think they're in Interlaken but you could check the ICF.

When are you visiting Switzerland? The Schlosskirche Interlaken is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year (of what, I'm not sure... thought it was older than that already!) and they're having a gospel choir concert, in English, on August 20th.

Rehearsals for it are already underway and anyone who would like to can attend them - might be a good way of making contacts. If there is a happy-clappy English speaking church in the area you can bet someone there'll know about it.

If it's the one in Spiez, yes it's been a church for over 1000 years, but only started serving the local Parish continuously for the last 100. I have seen it and it's pretty.

Re: Looking for Praise-hand-clapping church near Interlaken

I took my English students to a hand-clapping mass in New York this spring. The congregation was kind, heartwarming and welcoming. They were from ALL walks of life and yet found one common bond for an hour a week.

Even though my group didn't talk to anyone and never clapped their hands, we never felt negative vibes.

Too bad EF can't be more like that sometimes.

Re: Looking for Praise-hand-clapping church near Interlaken

To the OP, have you thought to google?

There are pentecostal churches - one in Geneva

http://www.clsgeneva.org/about.html

Or these, for charismatic...

http://www.charismatic.org/switzerland.htm
Of course the only two listed are in Basel Land and Lausanne

But you might contact any of these places and see if what sort of network exists... plus the other resources people have given you in Bern. I imagine that the people participating in these congregations have a better handle on what you're looking for.

Spiez is a great choice - near to Inerlaken and very pretty. Anything in Bern is about an hour's drive, and easily accessible via public transport.

Good luck....You'd probably get a more thoughtful response if you posted an intro about yourself, when you're coming and so forth...
