(I was single for 3 years before I met my hubby and didn't see it as a very long time - since I wanted to find that special someone and not just someone in order not to be alone).

In reference to the above. No, a year is not a long time. I'm actually very happy as a single and have had several periods in life being single. It's more a case of the specific situation. The reference to being 'close to giving up' was about being in CH, not just about being single for 12 months. Normally that wouldn't be an issue. But I think I was feeling it more becuase my 'natural' environment for dating didn't exist.

But anyway...I'm pleased to add that I have now had a few dates...nothing has come of them but I am at least feeling like I'm 'in the zone' again

Go to a comedy show; they're pumping full of happy chicks, laughing out loud, drinking gin and tonic. Girls like to laugh. It leads to dancing.
