HEY, my (Ticinese) girlfriend is from Zurich (well, on paper anyway, though that's probably where her "everything must always be super clean" mentality comes from). The truth of the matter really, is that most Swiss people meet their Swiss partners in one of two ways:

- they have friends in common, usually from as far back as kindergarten
- they meet at work

Most of the happy ones I know who are in relationships met their partners in option number 1. The society here is smaller and more closed, especially in towns and villages ( I am not talking about Zürich here but the outskirts of..) - it is hard to break into a clique that has known each other since diaper days. They are also rather hesitant with foreigners, not because they are being mean, but think back to your school days, when you had all you friends and a new kid showed up, say one who was from a different town or perhaps spoke with a funny accent. Acceptance takes a while. The Swiss are not a gregarious, terrifyingly friendly race like, say the Australians. Everything here works in a more conservative manner. Your best bet is to latch on to some people at work and get them to introduce you around to their crowd.
