What's the postal redirection service called?

Continuing with my preperations to move back to the UK soon, I need to go to the Post Office and get my mail redirected.

I know they offer the service but what's it called (in German)?

I'm hoping that they can redirect it abroad or maybe c/o someone in Switzerland who can mail it to me.

Re: What's the postal redirection service called?

I did this for a year back in the UK, it worked really well.

It's called "Nachsendeauftrag bei Wohnungswechsel" in German.

The page on the post website (in english!) is here. I think you have to fill in the form and pay in person at the post office counter though.

Excellent - pretty good VFM too and the page in English!

I'm not 100% sure of which one I need though ... Looks like one is designed for a permanent move out and the others for more temporary moves.

It's strange that you can choose to pay either 20CHF plus 5CHF per week or just a one off 40CHF. I'd guess you'd need your "I'm leaving the country for good" document to get the latter. I'll investigate further and report back.

Just remember they will only forward letters, and no large parcels (only small ones) and no periodicals either. Just make sure you change the address on those .

I found the link for those who just want forwarding within Switzerland: https://login.postmail.ch/postbox/ch...redLanguage=de

Re: What's the postal redirection service called?

within Switzerland IIRC they do a version where they simply forward the mail and they do a version where they forward the mail and notify the sender.

Cunningly, the one with notification is cheaper.

If you join Yellownet and do it online, I think you get it cheaper too.....

My pal did it internationally a few years back so that works too.....

I understand it goes as follows:

The first option in the list (Redirection order when moving to a new address) you use because you're moving, so would no longer be able to receive mail at the old address.

The second option (Temporary redirection order) is for if you want to redirect your post temporarily, but are not actually moving (e.g. if you go on holiday or something and don't want to miss important post). I guess they charge more because you're not actually moving so would still be able to receive mail at your original address, so it's seen as a higher level of service.

The third option (Permanent forwarding) is to continue either of the first two options beyond 12 months.

From what i remember, you need ID to prove you're the person at the original address whose post is being redirected. But you don't have to prove you live at the redirect address (at least, not for the UK - that kind of document doesn't exist in the UK anyway, until you actually live there and have received bills etc.!)

Re: What's the postal redirection service called?

I am going to be moving at the end of June and would like to use this service.

I have a question though, is the service like the equivalent in the UK where it takes a week for the forwarding to begin or is the Swiss service efficient and it starts immediately?

If anyone has used the service and can answer my question I would appreciate it.

Cheers,

They say you must give them four days warning, not sure if they might actually be faster than that .

I have tried the second option (Temporary redirection order), which worked really well so far. Now I need to withdraw it again, apparently you can do this at your assigned post office, i.e., the post office where your packages are usually held.

By the way, if you sign up to do these changes online, you will need to wait a few days for a verification code to arrive by mail. You do get 5 CHF as a gift, which counts towards the fee you will need to pay for address changes.
