Few days ago I went to Paeffikon Verkehrsamt to switch my driving license.
I already informed myself about the procedure from EF.
So I thought I would get my Korean driving license back with the "invalid" sticker's on.

But an officer told me that they will keep my license with them. If I need it, I can get it changed but should call them 2 days before collection.

I think this is something new.
I know that driving license obtained in Europe is returned to the country. But other than that are usually returned to the holder with invalid sticker on.

Just wanted to let you know.

Anyone experienced this?

I don't think that's the correct procedure, my husband got his Swiss licence 3 years ago in Zurich and he could take his Canadian drivers licence home, without invalid-stickers.. after all it IS still valid, just not here and he still needs it whenever we go back for a visit

That's how's done.
But here in Schwyz now at least they keep the license that are obtained outside EU.
I thought the staff was misken so I asked m hubby to call them up and ask it again. They ensured again, they keep it n if I need my korean license, I can get international driving license based on swiss one or change my swiss one with korean one when I need it.

And regaring invalid stickers, they used to put some kind of sticker(which easily comes off), saying it's not valid in switzerland(I don't no exact words). Many ppl mentioned it.

Anyhow it is no longer the case at least here in Schwyz.

In addition to previous info regarding driving license conversion in SZ

Last week I got my license.
And found out that they NOW

Input whether it is for Automatic or Manual.
If you see number 78 at the back of your license, you are only allowed to drive automatic.

78 - Nur Fahrzeuge mit Automatikgetriebe.

With my original license, I was allowed to drive Motorbike regardless cc.
I didn't know I was allowed to drive a big bike though. Had experience of driving scooter only.

Anyhow when I applied I ticked everything I allowed. Small n big motobike, car with trailer n even tractor. Wishing they give me a license that allow to drive scooter n car at least.

Appearently with my Switzeland driving license, I am allowed to drive motorbike(without limit to the size) n car only. Exactly what I wanted at the first place.

If you see 25kW or 45km/h, you are only allowed to drive a motorbike

25kW - Motorräder bis 25 kW und bis 0.16 kW/kg
45km/h - Motorräder mit aug 45 km/h beschränkter Geschwindigkeit
