Buying cheap guitar - where?

Hello,
I will be staying in zurich for approx 2 years and would like to buy a simple accoustic guitar to entertain myself.

Quality is of no issue but it would be good if it is not classical.

Have you any tips on that?

Re: Buying cheap guitar - where?

there is a good music store in by the Seedam Center in Pfaffikon, they had a pretty solid selection of acoustics when we were in there a couple of weeks ago. sorry, forget the name, but you can't miss it as you exit the motorway.

Re: Buying cheap guitar - where?

I've mentioned them before, and though they aren't local at all I am 100% sure you won't get a better deal than SX Guitars. I bought a bass from them a few years ago after reading numerous rave reviews from pro musicians, many of whom ended up liking these cheap things so much they use them for gigging and leave their expensive stuff at home. It was 120 bucks plus shipping and plays like a dream. Even with shipping you beat Swiss prices and the quality is great even if they were 5x the price. I haven't tried their acoustics but imagine they are similarly good.

(you have to select 'acoustic' and then specify SX)

Re: Buying cheap guitar - where?

The best Guitar shop in Zurich is without a doubt Basscenter opposite Altstetten Bahnhof. The owner Gabby is really nice, speaks a bit of English and on one occasion I managed to talk him down in price. His stock is all really good quality. A mate of mine wanted a cheap guitar and ended up getting something quite decent for 280 chf....

Re: Buying cheap guitar - where?

We bought out son one of the Aldi or Lidl 70CHF acoustic guitars last year as he expressed an interest in playing but we weren't sure of his commitment level.
Arm injuries prevented him playing it but as it's a 3/4 size Classical guitar, it's exactly the same size as an old folk guitar I used to have so I can play it easily (albeit badly).

It came with an electronic tuner and a selection of fret bridges

Lidl had some just before Christmas.

Re: Buying cheap guitar - where?

I have always imported my guitars as it is much, much cheaper. Try www.musicstore.de and see what they have.

I have ordered several childrens guitars (1/4, 1/2 and 3/4) for my students and also some top of the range Gibson and Fender electric guitars for me in the last 2 years. Delivery is normally a few days and I have never had a problem with them. Prices are around 65%-75% of the price you pay in Switzerland including all the import taxes and shipping costs.

If you buy some of the stock they have on offer you can even end up paying less than 50% of the price that you would pay here.

The guitars are always nicely setup and ready to rock 'n' roll out of the box.

No duty, just VAT at 8%, so CHF 70 or so.

Re: Buying cheap guitar - where?

I bought an accoustic western guitar for 350 swiss franks last spring, I tried to play it but then got annoyed because I'm no Jerry Garcia.

It's really in the basement, I would sell it to you, PM me if you're interested.
