donating unopened food (Basel)

I'm leaving Switzerland next week and I've just cleaned out my cupboards; I found a few food items that are still in date and sealed. I really don't want to just throw them out but I don't know if there's a place to bring them.
I've tried looking on the web since yesterday evening but I can't seem to find what I'm looking for.

Can anyone tell me if there is such a place in Basel? and where is it?

Thanks!!

Re: donating unopened food (Basel)

At the Migros in Frenkendorf (not Basel I admit) there is a basket by the check outs and you can put in tins and other grocery stuffs (no perishables) and they are distributed by a charity (I cannot recall offhand). I usually deposit pasta and cans of things in there, but I also see cleaning stuff, chocolate - basically anything that does not go off.

There should surely be some depot points at the Migros in Basel?

I've never noticed anything like that. Ieven looked up Frenkendorf to see if I could find a keyword that I was missing but the migros website doesn't indicate that the option exists there. Since I'm moving out on Tuesday I don't really have time to physically go into shops and search for it. I was hoping that one of the other Basel people might know - I'm close to Allschwil too so I'd go there either if I was sure that I could donate the food.

Re: donating unopened food (Basel)

The Frenkendorf Migros is a very big one. My bet is you will find this in a similarly big Migros around Basel (although as I do not shop in town for food I cannot direct you to a big Migros).

The Migros in Bubendorf (just beyond Liestal) also has this basket thing by the check outs so I did not think it was so unusual.
