Getting MDF board cut to size

Is there a DIY store (in Zurich) where you can get MDF boards cut to size (i.e. to make a table top for poker or subbuteo)?

I don't know many DIY stores in Zurich, except perhaps Jumbo. Would they be able to fix something up for me? Do IKEA do it?

I've had boards cut to size at both Jumbo and Migros Brico. I think there was a charge per cut but it was small enough that I don't remember .

Have you got the MDF already? Many shops will cut the wood/MDF they sell either free or for a small fee, but probably not wood/MDF bought elsewhere. In which case find a local carpenter and ask them.

Ah no, I should have clarified. I don't have it yet, I intend to buy the MDF at the shop that cuts them to size if possible!

Migros Do-it, Coop Brico, Jumbo and Obi all sell MDF and will cut to size for a fee.

Re: Getting MDF board cut to size

I have a question about MDF and this is the one of only 2 threads mentioning it. Does anyone have information about any regulations on the amount of evaporating formaldehyde from MDF furniture sold in Switzerland?

Some countries do have it, though I am not even sure there is uniform EU-wide regulation on this.

http://www.childrensfurniture.co.uk/mdf.html

http://www2.epa.gov/formaldehyde/fac...ldehyde#howcan

The background is that the paint from my fairly recent MDF table is being rather quickly destroyed through normal use. I also noticed that not all parts of the board have been covered with paint (whether they are sealed by other means I can't tell). So, I am wondering if I should be getting rid of my <1 year old, otherwise cool and not that cheap, table...

Re: Getting MDF board cut to size

I used to have some info about this and the variations in limits are (or certainly used to be a few years ago).

If I remember correctly, MDF isn't freely available/sold in the US due to the formaldehyde content, but in Europe I can't remember.

I'll see if I can find it and post it on here.

You can also get wood cut to size at Hornbach - They charge 1 CHF per cut, imho a bargain for a clean, precise, professional cut.
