I can think of nothing more crass than reducing someones hospitality into a competition.

dave | | | | | Dear Dick oh Im sorry Dave ,
I Didnt mean to offend you or do something you consider crass .
I thought it would be a fun way to get some people together and have a good time . (doesnt have to be exactly like it is in the show . )

No problem mamacrass, organise what you like. No one says it has to be in good taste.

dave | | | | | At least you have somewhat of a since of humor .
I guess I shouldnt be expecting you there or that you would host an evening at your house since you are obviously the king of good taste and manners ?

Thank you for the kind invite, but I am afraid I will be unable to attend as I am doing absolutely nothing else that evening.
Conversely when I organise a dinner party for friends or colleagues, it is in order to share a good meal and enjoy each others company, not to score points. But then what do I know ?

I'm quite happy to eat, but not so happy to cook.
I can be the judge. Dangerous job.

Whatever your opinion of the idea, those shows are bloody awful: have your seen the people who sacrifice all dignity to appear sophisticated, with their ghastly table decorations and ridiculous menus? Blaaaaah... no way I'm having you lot going through my stuff as I sweat in the kitchen |

Indeed , chez Dave, the sticks of Ikea will feature only on the fire, even then there will probably be a few sticks missing ; preventing a complete fire being made...

Not interested. My idea of a great "meal" is not the meal itself, nor the hospitality and sure as hell not the table decor.... rather, I judge by the good company and laughs that I have. I have fond dinner memories of eating crappy Spag Bol and pounding away lots of canned beers with friends of mine, the laughs were worth a gazillion times more than their table decor and manners... why pretend to be super-fancy when you're not !?

| | | Re: A perfect dinner + E F My aunt absolutely loves the idea. She says it's something she dreams of doing since she has perfect manners, hospitality and table decor. Can she and my uncle Richard come over?

It is apparent to me that only one of you has ever seen the show . It has nothing to do with being snobby or pretending to be someone your not .
It has to do with trying different types of food , wines or for that matter beer ! I just thought it would be interesting because there are people here from all over the world and it would be interesting try different dishes from other lands . Obviously I got a big groan ,but you cant blame someone for trying ?
Have a nice week !
Ps reserve all your sacastic remarks for someone who deserves them .

I would not do this as it is a plain silly idea.
However, the traditional multi-part dinner thing, where people get together, someone takes a starter(s), the host cooks the main course(s), someone else takes the dessert(s) and everyone gets pished as newts just for the fun of it could be fun.
