Mattress/bed frame shopping -- Ikea or not Ikea?

We are new here and in the process of picking a new bed/mattress. We have chosen a bed from Ikea - is it necessary for proper fit to buy a mattress from Ikea also? I ask because on the for sale forum I keep seeing people say that their mattresses do not properly fit into their bed frames.

Hi BKL,
I've bought 2 beds frames from IKEA before (a single and a double) and both have non-ikea mattresses. You can compare the dimensions on the IKEA site with the standard european sizes but I think you'll be ok.

However, I think I've heard that Ikea quilt covers only fit Ikea quilts - they are different from the standard sizes.

I got mine in conforama. Quite happy with it. A decent king size, mattress, lattenrost and delivery/ assembly cost aroun CHF1500. A queen size is commensurately cheaper

They have king sized beds in Switerland? I thought this was The Holy Grail??
