Re: Slugs!!!

Beer.

Fill a contain with beer and place it (mostly) in the ground. The slugs are attracted to it, and then they drown in the container.

Here are a few more ways to get rid of them:

Re: Slugs!!!

I walk around with a pair of garden shears, grab them with them and carry them away from my lawn and cut them in two.

Re: Slugs!!!

Don't worry about the slugs - with all this warm wet weather I'm covered in mosquito bites.

At least slugs can't sting/itch. Now, where's my Fenistil..?

Re: Slugs!!!

It depends if they are doing any actually damage to your plants. If they are only crawling around your grass then they probably are fine to let them be happy, if they eating your plants then broken egg shells seem to be relatively effective at discouraging them.

Alternatively treat them as beautiful and take some close up macro photos they make a great picture.

If you don't like them at all dishes with vinegar are an instant death hit or the snail pellets are effective.

At the end of the day with the current rain you will not get rid of them unless you hire a duck.

Runner ducks are best. They make great pets and they simply love slugs.

Re: Slugs!!!

that's all very wäääääh but works. the beer one is especially wäääääh because they dissolve...
but I am also interested why there are so many?

I haven't been bothered by any bites this year, feel very lucky because I'm allergic to horse fly bites and had none till now... (nock on wood)

will think of that option, definitely enough food and room. Do you think they would want a pond?

Normal ducks definitely need a pond, but runner ducks spend much more time on land than in the water so a small pond will be sufficient.

I use pellets, I'm afraid. I don't want them to suffer, but I do want them out of my plants, they are costing me a fortune to replace

Re: Slugs!!!

We use the salt trick as well. Just sprinkle a bit of salt on them and bingo. Job done.

The blue pellets are also good to use in the plant pots/trays in case you don't see them.

Re: Slugs!!!

Also annoyed when i find them munching on my veggies... one was happily munching on one of my red beets yesterday evening I used to toss the "Weinbergschnecken" (the huge snails) onto the street or into the adjacent field until i found out they are probably 30 years old I use these ones for my salad

Re: Slugs!!!

Why you don't leave those slugs without willing to harm them?

At worse, move them somewhere else-

If they eat your vegetables, whatever then try to put some protections, rather than necessarily killing or using chemicals...

Its just slugs after all, they necessary for other animals such as hedgehog.

No wonder there's not so many of them anymore, everyone's killing and poisoning thing just because they have living thing ...in their garden!

I have another solution for you, put cement everywhere. That way they will be no more of those extremely annoying creatures.

Re: Slugs!!!

A lot of allotment gardens in Lausanne have those bowls around their growing salads so people seem to think that's an effective and good solution. Plus, it's reusable and better for the environment than chemicals, no?

Sorry it's much more fun to kill any living creature invading their garden.

Useful animal, generally liked, though little known, the hedgehog is paying a heavy price for our lifestyles that make him the victim of our roads, pesticides in our gardens, etc...
