For the sake of clarification - I certainly had no intention of implying that any potential weapon be used pre-emptively. I was merely advising the woman who asked the question originally to keep pepper spray in her handbag, like I (used to) do, for use if and when attacked. Keeping pepper spray in a handbag is a far cry from a pre-emptive strike. Sorry for those who chose to interpret my comments as such. I repeat: it was certainly not my intention.

Hi Klarenca, maybe i should explain my use of the word attitude. I've also been on the receiving end of indecent exposure and although not pleasant my attitude was to look the other way and carry on walking. This saved me from any further confrontation and robbed the exhibitionist of the pleasure of my reaction. I did however report it to the police as I'm well aware that many women would feel threatened by this experience.

This hasn't robbed me of my security in Switzerland or convinced me that it's a particular dangerous place, however i certainly agree with you about common sense.There are places that i avoid when it's dark and late, like subways but I'd do that in any country. I've felt vulnerable on occasions but at the same time my attitude wont allow myself to think that evil a-waits around every corner.

I'm sorry that your experiences have had such an effect on you and that you feel the need to carry pepper spray but i personally wouldn't advocate it as a necessity to young women asking for advice on this forum. Then again thats just my attitude.

I am a mother - and 48 years old, perhaps a bit older than yourself (I confess, I have not checked your profile). I think it is only to be expected that your experience in life will affect your perceptions. Once burnt twice shy, as they say. I wish it weren t so, but at the risk of being politically incorrect, testosterone is a rather formidable force. For better and for worse. I find it only reasonable to expect the better, and be prepared for the worse. How s that for attitude?

Just dandy we have stuff in common, age and amount of time we've been here and if i had a daughter I'd probably feel exactly the way you do.

With weapons comes responsibility. Are your daughters instructed in the use of pepper spray and its effects?

Are they 18 or older, because this is the legal requirement for the (less toxic) pepper sprays?

A very valid point indeed. Yes, they re both of age and instructed in proper use of pepper spray. The older one is 21 and has been doing volunteer work with AIDS orphans in Cambodia for over a year and a half. She s seen quite a bit of the real world for her tender years.

Okay time to dig this thread up again

I thought it was just a rumor that a grown man dressed as a baby (yes that s right diapers, bonnet topless the whole nine) hangs out near Hirslanden Hospital in Zurich, but a co-worker of mine admitted to spotting him not too long ago.: eek:

Has anybody else had the pleasure of meeting him? Is he a freak or just a stressed out banker looking for a release as a baby? What should you do when he approaches you (this having happened to a friend of mine)?
