I don't know if the outlet term is used also within the native-english but in Italy we have shops selling branded clothes called "outlets" with good discounts (sometimes even 60%) just because belonging to a previous clothing collection.
I was wondering if here in Zurich or nearby areas there was something similar, or at least, an alternative to the super expensive botiques of the city center.
Alternatively, I could also jump off to the german border but I have no clue if there's anything in the ray of 10-20km out there.
In the specific I'm looking to buy a new coat (a good one).
Thanks
Fabio

The Esprit outlet store is in the Dietikon (not Dietlikon) industrial area. In the same building as Athleticum. My wife and I have been a few times, depends on your luck if you find something, but extreme bargains are to be had. Also a Tom Tailor store next door.

Reason: be clear about location as they very easily confused

'Athleticum' conjures up strange pictures in one's mind. |

I love outlet stores. Winners is a must everytime I head home, great deals on name brand stuff.
Someone mentioned one near Dietikon once to me, it's across from the Carrefour...can't recall the name right now though. |

Hello Fabio
Outlets are surely wonderful nesting spaces to uproot that one mysterious thing that nurtures the desire in everyone’s plight to; “grab a bargain!” Some people go to extraordinary lengths to get it on the cheap and the reputation of The English as being a nation of shop-keepers goes to further show that the Brits surely know a bargain when they see one. I in particular being no exception!
The Bally Areal in Schönewerd is a paradise for purchasing exclusive designer shoes from one of the last Swiss great names in shoemaking. Well worth a trip out – no matter where you live in Switzerland!
I was somewhat saddened that you were so taken by the Outlets in Italy. They are dominated by the arrogance of the dwindling fashion industry in and around Florence. The advertising tactics that they induce are aggressive and quite misleading. http://www.virtualtourist.com/travel...tlet-BR-1.html
I am by no means a stranger to these outlets and recently I had a field day in one, just off the motorway which leads into York. I love them, I really do. However, in Italy surely it’s the markets, and not the Outlets which are the jewels in the punters crown!
In an Italian Outlet, you would never be in the situation where you could do a good deal with a full blown haggling contest. Markets – no prob!
Every Sunday on the market in Cannobio, just over the Swiss/Italian boarder after Ascona, you can haggle till the cows come home. Especially at this time of the year, when the markets are in their dormant state. A year ago, I bought two fabulous leather jackets for peanuts.
“What did the Romans ever do for us?” Surely not Outlets!!
Ian

| | | Re: Clothes outlet | Quote: | | | | | “What did the Romans ever do for us?” Surely not Outlets!! | | | | | Hi Ian, unfortunately I have never been to the UK (except stopping at heathrow - and if I would stay in London I would use my time to visit sights, museums etc) so I cannot really compare the italian outlets with any other.
One thing is sure, italian clothes are getting really expensive just because of the name they have, and sometimes quality is not even that great, but that's happening with many brands that are also non-italian.
Near Venice I've found the Benetton outlet to be quite convenient especially for summer clothes, but if we talk about a coat for the winter I want to make sure that I will buy something durable and of good workmanship.
For example, last year I've bought in Zara a cheap jacket, good looking, for spring/autumn. The first I got took only a few days to get the zip broken, substituted and after a few months the zip is gone again.
So that's why now I want to buy something good that doesn't leave me in the cold... but I neither want to get robbed by expensive boutiques.
By the way, italian outlets have all the brands not just the italians, and especially in the south if you know which places you should visit (there's not just Florence, to say it all I've never bought clothes near there) you can really get good bargains, although sometimes it's only a matter of luck.
EDIT: ah, I see now you were talking about Gucci??? Those are very posh brands. I'm miles away from buying that stuff

Fabio, for discounted Italian clothing check out "le mouton a 5 pattes"
This is more a Geneva region outlets as they have 4 in the city of Geneva, 1 in Bern, 1 in Basel, 1 in Lausanne, 1 in Mendrisio, but there is an small shop here in Zürich near the Banhoff, Usteristrasse 23, 8001 Zurich
They sell Italian clothing ar reduced prices, up to 80% discount on already discounted Italian brands.
But now as is still the start of the winter season you'll get maximum 30% discount, by February they'll be at 80% off for the winter collection
The shops in Geneva have much more items for sure.
You can get there D&G, Versace, Boss, Gianfranco Ferre, Pal Zileri, Sonny Bono, Gazzarinni and other italian brands http://www.moutona5pattes.com/ | | This user would like to thank for this useful post: | |
