| | | English Speaking Colleges in Switzerland
I'm going to move to Switzerland soon and I'm going to be a senior in high school. After that I will attend college, however I am unable to find any English speaking bachelor programs.
I've lived in America my whole life and only speak English. Based on my research, I would be fine living in Switzerland with just English because from what I've found, many people speak English there.
Although, after many hours of researching, I cannot find any colleges offering English courses for a bachelor degree. Many masters programs are offered in english, but not many bachelors.
Can someone please help me in finding an English speaking college in Switzerland? Even if it's in another country near Switzerland, that would be fine. I want to pursue an education in science, so I'm interested in pharmacy, medicine, dentistry, or even engineering. I'm also interested in law.
So please, if you know of any colleges that offer programs and courses in English, please let me know. Thank you.

However, the schools I found from these links that offer bachelor programs in English don't have pharmacy, medical, biology, or law courses (which is what I'm looking for). Do you know any school that has those courses?

Im assuming your parents are moving to Switzerland?
If I were you I would look at University courses in the UK. English language options are going to be much more readily available and its not that far from the family if they are in Switzerland.
You'd probably have a lot of fun as well.

You can try the Free Uni of Bolzano / Bozen for example: http://www.unibz.it/en/public/university/default.html |

Like going to College in Ohio.

Realistically, you should stay in the US and do your school there.
If you only speak English, your opportunities here will be seriously limited.
Sorry, but that is the reality.

Don't choose your education based on your mother's emotional difficulties, confront her and win.
If you have another reason to come to Europe/Switzerland, feel free. But find a good reason, it's your education, don't ever forget that.

Tom | | | | | I meant distance wise. But having inlaws from Ohio I know EXACTLY what you mean.

An Italian, French, or Swiss college will be an international experience although if you want to study specific subjects in English your choices are going to be diminished.
The UK is the easiest, closest, Englishist option. There will be lots of options for the subjects you may want to study.

Do you know which high school you are going to be attending in Switzerland? It could be a good idea to contact the school careers advisor/senior councellor to see what options they are aware of.

Quasim, where do you see yourself establishing a career post university - Switzerland? Elsewhere in Europe? The US?
I ask because you mention medicine and law - depending on the country, the paths to these careers will vary significantly - and switching from one system to the other many not be easy.
If you see yourself in establishing a career in Switzerland, take a year (or two) off after high school and work on your German/French. Then pursue your education here. Certainly if you wish to practice law or medicine (and many other professions) in Switzerland you will need fluency in at least one local language. Preferably two.
All the best.

I think coming to Switzerland and expecting to live here without making any effort to learn the national languages is really a shame. Some thoughts:
1) Take time off and learn either French or German, but really well, like total immersion. There are plenty of foreigners studying at Swiss universities and I'm sure that they don't all speak French and German fluently.
2) If you really want to study in English and live here, look at distance learning. The Open University from the UK has an excellent reputation and very long experience at doing this.
3) Law is going to be an odd subject for you to study here, as you'll learn Swiss law not US law.
