| | | Stocking up - what to bring?
I'm driving over to Zurich next month for a permanent move from the UK. I keep reading about certain things (e.g. medicines - ibuprofen) being ridiculously expensive in Switzerland. Are there any particular products I should buy loads of in the UK before I leave and bring with me? Will it be worth it? Answers greatly appreciated.

Everything.
Fill the car with any dried foods, spices, sauces, cleaning products (esp. washing powder/liquid), all toiletries (esp. shower gels and shampoos), towels. As for medicines - generic medicine is much much much cheaper in the UK, eg those 16p packets of Paracetamol from Boots.
As you have a car, get all bedding (Euro size) and kitchen stuff from either Ikea or across the border in Germany once you arrive. Or from the UK if you have space.
Do you cycle? Bring a bike.
You'll soon learn what you miss and will stock up on each visit back to the UK. Flights back are quite cheap if booked in advance.

I miss Shredded Wheat here and try to cram it in my luggage on trips back from the UK.
On a side note, given it's a Nestlé brand I'm surprised it's not available here, especially considering it's so healthy (compared to many other varieties on the shelves).

The closest they do are "Toppers" which are mini versions but have a nasty crusty coating of sugar on top.
Those British food shops do them but I'm damned if I'm going to pay their prices just for a breakfast cereal.

some of the perishables mentioned may not make the trip, but good ideas...
when I moved here, we were strictly told that anything purchased within 6 months of the move would have to be declared at the border. This, meant I took things out of new packaging and ditched receipts where I could just in case.
I don't know if you will have an issue like that, but, maybe someone else knows better than I.

Things like the meat will be fine if your boot is seperate from the car. Use a freezer bag or box. I wouldnt chance bringing meat in summer but in winter.. Absolutely!!

Flat sheets for your bed. Easier than taking the comforter in and out of the duvet and even cooler than the duvet by itself on hot nights since the flat sheet is a layer thinner!
