Paralympics Opening Ceremony

Where is the Opening Ceremony of the Paralympics on Swiss TV. Do they care? Do disabled people in Switzerland have equal rights and opportunities? Any disabled people on the forum?

Re: Paralympics Opening Ceremony

It's sad to say, but Paralympics have not the same interest for people that the olympics have....

According to what I've heard, from those involved with it, this Paralympics promises to be the biggest ever - in terms of number of competitions, competitors, spectators and viewers.

The greatest support is obviously from the home nation, but unfortunately seems to vary throughout other countries.

Switzerland is still very nationalistic and insular when it comes to sporting events ..... if there is anything involving Switzerland taking place, then that takes precedence.

Re: Paralympics Opening Ceremony

Personally, i was really excited about the Paralympics.

People amaze me! Did you see the swimming? RESPECT!

Olympains push their bodies to the extreme but Paralympians are in a league of their own!! Outstanding.

And the opening ceremony! It amazed me that they managed to include literally everyone. Imagine finding a routine that EVERYONE can do Blind, deaf, wheelchair bound etc..

Re: Paralympics Opening Ceremony

The paralympics have turned out to be amazing!

Jonnie Peacock winning the 100m final last night was absolutely fantastic, we have some great athletes in these games!

I admit that before this last week or so, I had never heard of the likes of Ellie Simmonds, Hannah Cockcroft, Jonnie Peacock, Jessica-Jane Applegate, but now I am hooked!

Brilliant!

Re: Paralympics Opening Ceremony

I have to say I've watched more of the Paralympics than I did of the able bodied version. This was partly because I didn't have time and was away a lot during the August events but I've found the Paralympics gripping.

Oscar Pistorius is amazing!!

Watched the 400m final last night, so exciting and moving. What a great paralympics this has been, I just wish I had watched more of it.

Re: Paralympics Opening Ceremony

Most of the paralympics coverage we've seen has been on Channel 4 out of the UK. They have done a superb job of publicizing the games, showcasing athletes, showing a variety of events, and providing explanations for the categories of disabilities. Cannot ever recall having seen similar coverage in the U.S. They even ran a biopic on Dr. Ludwig Guttmann before the Games started that was excellent. Bravo!
