Abandoned Buildings/Bizarre Locations

Hello!

I was just wondering if anybody could help me find Bizzare Buildings or Abandoned Buildings(such as Train Graveyards, Planes, or Hospitals) around the Geneva area. If not around the Geneva area, then perhaps around Nyon, Gland, Bienne, Yverdon Les Bains, or Lausanne?

The purpose of this exercise would be for film & photography.

I thank you in advanced.

There was one near Zurich which I had been seeing from my train for many months. However, it is being taken down now since last week

Re: Abandoned Buildings/Bizarre Locations

If you're quick about it, there's the old Freight train station in Zurich.... it's been empty/unused for ages but is currently being torn down... always loved to look at that one for some reason..

Whoops, Borex may be a bit far from Zurich for some photo's after all...

Re: Abandoned Buildings/Bizarre Locations

An area around the Usine (tram 14 stop Palladium) is being rebuilt and I believe there are one of two buildings there that are in the process of being torn down. Not sure if you can access them, but it is rare to see a building in the middle of Geneva that part ripped open with its skeleton in full view, so it might be good for a photo or two.

Re: Abandoned Buildings/Bizarre Locations

If you think about coming up to the north... In Baden, in the hotel zone there are a couple of hotels that are abandoned.. One is getting some work done but the back of it it's quite creepy.. My favorite though is left just like that and I think it's quite pretty and such a shame to be in such state...

I know them quite well because they're down my running lane always stop to take a look at them

Re: Abandoned Buildings/Bizarre Locations

I was going to suggest the old wine cellars in Neuchatel which have been abandoned and empty for quite a few years but as I drove past this morning they were covered in scaffolding so I guess they're going to start renovating them.
My guess is that they'll turn them into offices or flats but at least they're preserving the beautiful old building and not demolishing it completely to be replaced by a modern concrete construction

Re: Abandoned Buildings/Bizarre Locations

Maybe the OP should reconvert into doing pictures of trees, mountains, lakes

Due to lack of space in "Riviera" (Geneva-Nyon-Lausanne) I doubt that there are so many big buildings left in damaged conditions...

I've seen the occasional old and damaged block, but not so many... At least not in Riviera.

Edit: plus it's well known, Swiss are friendly and Switzerland is very clean everywhere! No chances to find a dirty old building.

Re: Abandoned Buildings/Bizarre Locations

Down on the main lake-side road in Nyon, a few hundred meters west of the CGN ticket office there is an old derelict shell of a building, around 4 floors high and supported by wooden structure, over grown garden etc..

No idea what it was, or if it's very interesting. Actually a few old places on that short stretch of road.

Wonder if 28dayslater.co.uk has a swiss section

That's a great suggestion. I believe I saw that building just the other day. It is by the boardwalk next to the wonderful park there in Nyon. You can see it from the Roman Columns I believe. I must go investigate! Thank you.

This building's been torn down completely now, if ever.

Not anymore, sorry. Geneva is too densely populated for there to be many possibilities.

Bumping this thread to see if anyone knows any good spots anywhere in Switzerland or surrounds ?

Back home, there is no shortage - as you can see here : http://www.abandonedireland.com/

Used to love wandering round old buildings, would like to check out a few here if possible

Cheers,

Re: Abandoned Buildings/Bizarre Locations

In the stations of Frick and Stein Säckingen there are quite a few abandoned train cars parked up, many of them partially vandalized. i think the idea is that they gradually get transferred to Kaiseraugst near Basel where the main recyling plant is. But I guess they're overworked right bnow leading to them being stationed in lots of other places.

Re: Abandoned Buildings/Bizarre Locations

.. and talking about train graveyards, and seeing you're in Geneva, why don't you go into France and check out Culoz. There's a huge train graveyard there, and plenty more rotting trains parked up on various storage tracks in the wider area.
