Need help in removing the ceiling lamp for replacement of bulb.

Trying to remove it for few days now but in vain. Its just the normal lamp.
Any particular method by which this lamp could be removed. Here is the link to the pics of the lamp...

Thanks in advance.

Is that metal thing a screw? try twisting the lamp in either direction, or just pulling the metal thing out if it is a nail. (I have on actual experience with Swiss lamps, so these are just general thoughts).

That little metal thingamajig sticking out of the top of the lamp can either be pulled out to remove the globe or it can be slid sideways. One of these options should do the trick. I have something similiar in my house.
You might have to use a little force as it is normally stuck in very tight

you definitely need to twist it - i believe there are little metal catches inside that somehow slide into each other - sorry am not very good at explaining this - but just twist it! good luck.

Oh, oh, I think we have one very similar if not the same. As another person mentioned, try pulling the little metal button out (away from the center of the circle defined by the light fixture, parallel to the ceiling). That will move two prongs (like large metal staples) inwards, thereby releasing the shade. Be sure to support the shade so it doesn't fall down. I fought with one just a few days ago, in my case, the previous occupants had installed an enormous energy-saving bulb, and that was doing half the job of holding the shade in place. If you still have problems, let me know and I'll take some photos for you.

If you are in a rented apartment, call your landlord, or ask a neighbor. They may have the same fixture.

Thank you all for your input. Tried twisting it clockwise and anticlockwise, it keeps on rotating. Tried to pull the thongs too. Nothing happens. Now, the only way is to contact my Landlord, which i try to avoid to the max, as she speaks nothing other than swiss German..

That is easy.. Invite her in, flick the switch a few times, point at the light and say "Hilfe Bitte"... If she can't get that, call an electrician in and send her the bill.

Really though, the lamp shade should be released by the catch on it. Slide the catch, move the globe around, it should fall down (don't drop it).

I hope these help:

1. The offending lampshade
2. The magic knob
3. Pull it outwards to release the prongs (seen in next photo)
4. Push it in to engage prongs (shown without shade for clarity)

Thanks a lot ersatz. Earlier we weren't sure if we could pull the prongs this far outwards. Now, that it's clear ( with the help of the pics), i am confident that we could do it. Waiting for my husband to return from work to execute the task. .
