Odd question - anyone know where we can buy children's scooters anywhere between Rolle-Lausanne area?

We're visiting later this week on our pre-move househunting trip, and I've foolishly sold the kids on the whole urban scooter lifestyle thing and promised we'll pick some up to use during our trip (and then store at Daddy's office until we move over for good in the next month or so).

I've tried Googling 'scooters', 'toy shops' and so on (yes, yes, I did it in French), but can't find a thing. Yet they must be sold somewhere, as when I came last summer every other kid in Morges was running me over with one!

Is there a Toys-R-Us/ Argos type equivalent place where we can pick some up?

They're called trotinettes in French, and you can buy them at most sports stores.

One chain called Athleticum seems to sell a few different models. They have a large store in central Lausanne and another just off the motorway north of Lausanne in Bussigny. Other potential places to pick one up are Ochsner Sport or Intersport stores. You might even have luck at a department store. They sell them everywhere here.

Thank you, Heather, I didn't think of sports shops, I was searching under 'jouets' instead. I've jotted down the details of the Bussigny one, as we'll invariably have to go there the very first morning of our trip (the kids are 4 and 8, so not terribly good at delayed gratification).

Speaking of my 4 year old, I was going to get one of those little pre-schooler scooters, with the two wheels at the front - would that be a sports shop thing too, or more a toy shop (and if so, would you happen to have a link, grovelly, grovelly...).

I'm very grateful for your help, as my Googling was completely unproductive; I'm trying to spend as little time on this as poss once we're there so it doesn't get in the way of the rather more important matter of finding accommodation!

I just saw that they definitely have children's scooters at the Migros Sport XX shop, which is also just north of Lausanne.

The store is in the Centre Commercial in Crissier, alongwith the large grocery store chain Migros (you can see it from the motorway). Here's a link to information on how to get there. Getting there once you've exited the motorway can be a bit confusing. Just follow the signs for Centre Commercial and you should be okay.

EDIT: They only seem to have the childrens one in pink. This may or may not be a problem for you.

That's brilliant, exactly the one I was looking for - pink is a pre-requisite rather than a problem as we've very much hit the 'pink and Barbie' stage, despite mine and her older brother's best endeavours...

(And I also now know to bring bikes and roller-blades with us from the UK - scaaaarrrry prices for them there! Never mind, it's a fair trade that if we want the community feel of the UK 30-40 years' ago, then we have to lose the discount culture too!)

there is a toys r us in Lausanne. I don't know if they have what you are looking for.

The "big thing" now seems to be the shoes with wheels in them that retract.

Those 'wheely' shoes are exceptionally dangerous. Avoid them at all costs

Hi Heather and others

Just wanted to send a quick note to say thanks for all your help on scooter shopping - we found exactly what we were looking for at the Migros above. And they were such fun that we got one each for the kids, and one for us to share too.

Getting the scooters turned out to be very beneficial for our school visit too, as the kids' future school had a big pile of them in the cloakroom and all my son can think about now is that he'll be able to scooter to school like the other kids!

(We found a place to live in Préverenges, BTW, so hopefully I'll be seeing some of the Lausanne-based members at forum socials soon.)

My 5 and 8 year olds have scooters, too, and it was a wonderful investment. Everyone has the same scooters around here and one family accidentally swapped their slightly more worn out scooter for ours.

You might put a sticker or ribbon on each scooter to avoid scooter mix-ups!

We just got one for our little boy (2.5 years old) last weekend from Jumbo in Bussigny or crissier (somewhere around there). 3 wheels, 1 in front, 2 in back. After we got that one we check the sport store right above Jumbo (same building) and they have more choice of models.
