Tips for teens living in Lausanne :) (or near it) CONT.

Wow. It's been quite a while since I saw this thread. There are some things I would like to clarify for myself and others.

First off, I would like to say for myself that I have greatly matured over the past few months. I greatly apologize for my grave immaturity , I was just too excited for a new life , a clean slate.

Secondly, I would like to ask some more things for the more practical things in life (if it's still okay with you all and if you can tolerate my existence).

Not necessarily IN Lausanne even near it (like Montreux , Vevey)

1. Office Supplies? (Pens, Notebooks, Papers)

2. Bike Shop (I need maintenance for my MTB)

3. Groceries

4. Clothing (in general)

5. Post Office / Shipping (FedEx, DHL, UPS)

6. Places to Eat (I only know TaxiPizza in Vevey near Nestle)

Not important:

1. Knife shops (Spyderco, Chris Reeve)

2. Book Stores (in English)

Thanks, -Renzo

(you may add from my old post)

"Hi guys , Renzo here. This year I am moving to Lusanne and I am going to live there for about 3 years. I have some questions to ask.

1. What is better Lusanne or Zurich?
(Shops for Streetwear , Skate Shops , Videogames etc. etc.)

2. What activities do teens do in Switzerland?

3.Are there actual Malls/Shops in Lusanne/Switzerland?
(Look at #1)

4.How is food there? Where to teens hang out?

5. Mode of transport for teens?
(Bikes , Trains , Bus)

6. Is Lusanne boring?
(or Zurich or Switzerland in general)

I might add more but thats all thanks please answer I need it "

Apologies again sir/s aSwissInTheUS and J.Marple

You think I haven't tried? I need answers from people who LIVE there not just a computer full of info.

I still respect your answer. Cheers.

Re: Tips for teens living in Lausanne :)

RenzoRaptor, if you claim to have matured an iota over what you have claimed previously, then take it as it comes and get all that know-how once you arrive here.

Besides, if you are a student here, and especially attending an international school, you'll likely have people here in the same boat who will be able to collectively answer all of those questions.

Even if we gave you the info you wanted, it's not as if it will help you greatly to "hit the ground running". You would be better off doing what I did - read some travel guides (e.g. Wikivoyage), some expatriate websites, etc.. Most of the info from those sites are written by people who have lived / are living here. My contact at my place of employment helped me with some of the more administrative things (e.g. registering at the commune, how to open a bank account, etc.), but it pays not to stretch a friendship / relationship!

Learn some French - not everyone speaks English in Lausanne. In circles which are abound with expats, especially international schools and universities, of course English becomes much more common. I can get around OK with basic French but I could stand to learn a lot more (e.g. to deal with authorities, converse with locals, etc.).

I don't know where you are moving, but first you should understand for yourself how "close" Montreux and Vevey are to Lausanne.

The only thing that maybe others might chip in is a good bike shop, maybe one where the staff might speak English (to start with). I don't own a bike so I can't recommend one, and since maintaining a bike isn't a "basic essential" unlike some of the other points you have asked for, people may have different opinions on the quality of certain bike shops.

I'm sure there must be a thread on EF somewhere about how to send stuff overseas (money, goods, boxes, etc.), otherwise basic / local postage is pretty trivial to find info.

Re: Tips for teens living in Lausanne :)

Hi guys! I'm in Switzerland now and I am in Corseaux (my mother found a beautiful house there) and I want to thank EVERYONE who commented here, positive or negative. It helped a ton. I apologize to people I have offended also for acting very childish. I was too excited. I am now studying in St.Georges School of Switzerland (or soon to be). I love Switzerland and once again thanks to EVERYONE! Cheers!
