Re: Go-Pro......wait!!!!!!

I'm eventually more interested in filming with a drone with some kind of "follow me" signal. Idea is to launch drone and then pedal away with the drone filming our MTB group.
I think that the limitation will probably be on the downhill sections... probably too fast for the drone to follow?

But the BIG LIMITING factor in getting a nicely finished vid has nothing to do with the model you're using.

It's the editing and post (especially the grading)

If there's one thing I can't really stand anymore, it is a noisy, blurry, unedited (uncut) action video

Here is a recent Kickstarter Drone Project that caught my eye, both because of the alleged specs (to good to be true?) and because it seems to me that there is a lot of "irrational euphoria" and buzz and hype surrounding drones in general - just check how much money they raised vs. their initial expectations / necessities.

I definitely want to see how this pans out

For the future this guy seems to have a good selection of accessories for the GoPro cameras.

B&H photo are one of the premier sellers of cameras and video equipment in the USA. Here is a short introductory review/explanation they did on the Silver and Black editions of the GoPro 4 camera.

The microphone they mention (and sell) is US$ 69.00

Re: Go-Pro......wait!!!!!!

Go Pro? Why? Slammer got himself the almost but not quite entirely unlike a go pro, SJ4000, it does everything the go pro does, only it does it for under 100 bucks a pop, I am so happy with the quality and the pictures and the vid it takes, sound is good, there is a display with it, and the underwater case is rated to 30 meters but it has been down to 40 without a bubble. picture stabilization is good enough to compensate maltese potholes when on the mo-bikes fairing and battery lasts for almost 90 minutes at full HD, I really can't complain.
The only thing it doesn't have is the wifi, but that is coming with the SJ5000.
So all you suckers who bought a GoPro

Exactly there are very similar cameras for a fraction of the price.

Just look at the tests on techno moan

This is a follow up video that talks about how to use a GoPro. My guess is that it is aimed for first time users.

Re: Go-Pro......wait!!!!!!

So .. GoPro experts..

I bought one of the entry level gopro cameras, just to see if I'll actually use it. So far I've pointed it at the dog a few times!

Planning to take it skiing this weekend but I don't want to have to remember to use it.. Is it feasible to attach it to a ski and leave just leave it running for 2 hours. Or should i do that and use the time lapse mode? Hoping i can just do that then review the video in the hope of finding a minute or two of something vaguely interesting/funny.

you will probably see mostly snow and a blue ski when you fall.
i think the camera position should be higher than the ski.

Your main constraints are memory and battery time - and if you're planning to get some "nice" footage (i.e. not pixelated) you will need to record in the highest possible quality, and this will go through your memory like crazy so you will need to record at the right moment. Alternatively invest some more money to buy extra memory cards.

In practice I see my mountain bike pals are constantly turning their cams on and off to preserve battery life and to avoid hogging the cards with hours of footage the then needs hours of selection, editing, etc

Re: Go-Pro......wait!!!!!!

I usually leave mine running essentially the whole day, but start and stop it at breaks to split up the video file size. Makes for some nice B-footage at times on the chair lift too!

I do have and oldschool gopro (yeah, the Hero is now retro ), so for sports I use 720 with the 60 frame rate.

I've never had a problem with memory or battery as long as it's charged and empty card at the start of the day.
