| | | How can I dispose of unwanted furniture?
I have a sofa bed in my old apartment and can not seem to give it away at such short notice. It looks like I will have to throw it away but how? Do I just leave it out on the usual rubbish collection day?
Thanks

Put it outside where the rubbish containers are with some bin marks on, and they will take it away for you.

Like mine, When my decorative bathroom mirrors cracks, I hired a guy at the glass store and cut it into small mirrors, then framed it. | | | | | Are you suggesting he cut up his sofa bed into a bunch of midget sized sofa beds..? Well at least he'd have something to talk about on the Midget News thread.. |

It depends on where you live, the salvation army or "Emmaus" have trucks that will pick up thing for free to sell in their shops http://www.emmaus-ge.ch/html/suisse.html. Its worth a try as they sell the things for very reasonable prices. In the Lausanne region they have a day in the month that you can put unwanted furniture and crap out on the street and rubbish collectors will pick it up. Call your commune for the details of the days.

| | | Furniture disposal
Hi, Is it true that there is a place in the outskirts of Basel, where one can dispose their furniture, free of cost? Any information in this regard would be much appreciated.
I have 2 wardrobes, one dinning table with 4 chairs and a couch to give away for free, if anyone is interested

Now I am sure there is a PROPER way to dispose of it. But often I just see people leave it by the curb on a nice day. Give it 2 hours and it has found a new home.
I did this with a futon on a rainy day in Geneva and it only took 10 minutes til it was adopted.

This Thread has addresses of rubbish disposal in Basel. If the stuff is in good condition, try a Brockenhaus or post under Market Place > Goods for Sale/Free in this Forum.
This is another Thread on a similar subject

| | | How to get rid of furniture
My wife and I are going to be moving back to the States and I was wondering what are some ways in which we can sell and get rid of the furniture that we have bought? Any websites, other than this one, or companies that help with this sort of thing?
Thanks in advance.

Offer it for sale, or for free here. Get the salvation army, Ihop, or your local Brokenstübe to come round and take any good things. Leave it on the pavement with "gratis" written on it. Take it to the dump. Hire a skip.

The Salvation Army won't take most things, unless they're antique or expensive - keep that in mind when you're trying to get rid of things that you don't sell. They also told me they don't take bookcases, anything IKEA, etc.
