Cobbler/Shoe Repair in Zürich?

Does anyone have a recommendation for a good cobbler in the Zürich area? (the kind that does shoe repair - not the dessert! ) Specifically, one that speaks English?

I need some unusual work done on my shoes, and I'm afraid it would be beyond what I could explain in (my so far quite limited) German Thanks!

Re: Cobbler/Shoe Repair in Zürich?

There are two repair places in Thalwil you could try. Mister Minute in the Migros. There is also another shoe repair shop at the South end of the 'shopping district' on Gotthardstrasse, roughly across the street from where Denner was until it moved into the Migros building.

Re: Cobbler/Shoe Repair in Zürich?

The only one I know quite well is in the Brunau Park shopping center. He's italian, speaks German with a heavy accent, and I've never dared to test his English. The work is excellent though - even for "unusual" stuff.

Re: Cobbler/Shoe Repair in Zürich?

I thought mending is unheard of in Switzerland ... If it is broken , the rule is to buy a new one

Actually , Migros does a pretty good job ......

Re: Cobbler/Shoe Repair in Zürich?

I tried the two in Thalwil since that's close to me - no luck yet... Will try the Brunau Park one too...

It's a rather unusual request since it involves having them glue and sew velcro onto running shoes, to keep sand from getting in the shoe. Here's what it's supposed to look like when it's finished.

I think I may have to try lots of places to find someone who'll do this here... So if there are any more suggestions I'd really appreciate it - Thanks!

Re: Cobbler/Shoe Repair in Zürich?

There's a shoe maker/mender at the bottom of my street who would probably be able to do it, but Luzern is probably too far for you.

If I don't have luck here in Zurich then I may have to venture out farther... so any suggestions are welcome

Re: Cobbler/Shoe Repair in Zürich?

Hillseeker, there is a cobbler in Dübendorf who has sometimes nearly rebuilt my favorite "expensive" boots. He is also an expert in orthopedic adjustments to shoes, boots etc.

I could ask him if you like. Dübi is 11 mins by train from Zürich and he is situated right in the center.

Re: Cobbler/Shoe Repair in Zürich?

I can recommend one in Zürich Altstetten, just around the train station up the Altstetter Strasse on the right hand side. Old guy, older shop and most propably no English. But if someone can fix it, he can.

There's one just by Bahnhof Stadelhofen in Zurich. The old fashioned kind who takes pride in his work and did an excellent job on all the shoes I've brought him in the past.

Re: Cobbler/Shoe Repair in Zürich?

Directions are right there in the post mate.

As to the expense, well, he's certainly not one of those "while-u-wait" type places. Quality comes at a price and in my opinion, he delivers.

I'd highly recommend this cobbler, too, though he's not cheap. He's done a number of shoe repairs for me, including a pair of Chanel ballerines which needed to be resoled and re-heeled. Needless to say, they came back polished, fixed and looking like they were brand new. It was an expensive job, but worth every centime!

I'm not sure whether he speaks English or not. I always used my limited German to try to explain what needed to be done, and evidently he understood since he did a fantastic job every time.

Thanks you all! I am going to try the one at Stadelhofen now, and then a couple of the others if that doesn't work... I'll let you know how it comes out!

Re: Cobbler/Shoe Repair in Zürich?

I finally found a shoe repair person who would do the work I needed!!

I tried many of the others, including the one near Stadelhofen, but no luck there unfortunately. I'm sure they do good work, but this request was just too unusual for them it seems.

The guy who took on the "challenge" is at Sihl City, Mister Minit.

I learned a very important German word from it - probieren (to try). He was willing to do that, while the others weren't. And he did a great job (even tho I had to go back to ask him to adjust it, he got it right in the end ).

So if you have an unusual shoe repair need, I'd recommend him.
Thanks to you all for your suggestions!

Thanks for the posts! I've been asking around for weeks and here appears to be everything I need to know. . . EXCEPT and sorry if I'm being dense here, but I couldn't click through to directions to the Stadelhofen guy above. Would you mind giving me some more specific directions. ie. if you are walking out of Stadelhofen go. . .

Now, two years after the last post, I would also
like to know where this place is.

Can anyone provide information on this cobbler's
whereabouts? Thanks!

Re: Cobbler/Shoe Repair in Zürich?

These small shops tend to move on after a few years. If you want a true cobbler, look for Orthopedic shoe makers.

Refine the search area by searching in your locality,
