Camera repair

sorry if I have put this in the wrong forum...wasn't sure where to slap this.

I have a digital sony camera that I bought in Canada last year. The stupid thing won't open the shutter when set to the option to take pics. It will open however when set to the option to flip through the pics. So, I know the shutter isn't busted.

I'm looking for a camera shop that isn't toooo $$$$. otherwise it may just be cheaper to buy a whole new camera.

anyone recommend a good shop?
I was thinking interdiscount or something like that....

thanks!

Hi
I am here to offer you value-added advice. (joke, don't take too seriously)

If the camera is less than 8MPix and cost less than 500chf, I would suggest you dump it and buy a new one.
Repairing an electronic gadget these days are unheard of, and too costly.

If you like, I can continue to bore you with "how to select a digital camera". Or you can go to this thread:
OT Post? Any opinions or advice on choice of DSLR?

There are some http links there to sites useful for this sort of thing.

Personally, a digital camera become "obselete" in less than 6 months, meaning you can dump it if it is faulty.
You can check out : http://www.toppreise.ch for online purchases which is usually 20-30% less than normal shops, even Mediamarkt.

Re: Camera repair

in Jelmoli, down-town there is a repair desk for Fust. You could try there.

You could also contact Sony in Schlieren, not far from Zurich. Contact them and tell them what's happened to your camera. It does not seem like you've dropped it.

Sony in CH is quite good.
In fact I received a new PS2 from them, after mine konked out just after 12 months.
They even delivered it to my doorstep without me going to Schlieren. Call them first!

Buy Sony, if you have little time to research. Their products are really good for consumer-class!

Re: Camera repair

thanks guys! will look into this....I didn't drop it or anything...I have no idea what is actually causing this. seems to work, then just shuts itself off after I change it to the setting to actually take a pic!

quite annyoing considering it's a year old....and never have had any issues with sony stuff before.

HAT - thats what my dad said...prolly better off just buying a new one at this point. but I'll ask around and see what's up.

thx again

Hi JenniferD,
I would suggest calling Sony in Schlieren first, ask them about it. They sometimes will give you a new camera even if you bought it elsewhere. A sony is a sony, no one can fake it. (have not seen a fake sony before)

A friend of mine, called Minolta when his expensive digital camera konked out, and he got a brand new one (new model too), for nothing.
No questions asked. They actually like to take back the old spoilt one for analysis.

Re: Camera repair

If you bought it last year it will still be under guarantee , most guarantees are international so should be covered by Sony here in CH.
