Some.
Yes MC, of course - some. Anyway, the people I was lucky to get to know in real life are rarely posting here anymore, I guess it's what "comes with the territory" that makes them reluctant to participate more, it's a pity...but totally understandable.

Re: EF at its very best ....

Aside from all the masses of advice and support I've had for my many posts for help since I first joined the forum before I'd ever set foot on Swiss soil.... which deserve a huge chunk of the credit for my settling in so well and so quickly and I'm very grateful for...!

I've also had:

One member translate some application forms for apartments and give some advice on housing, which can likely be attributed to finding a place so quickly and easily!

One member who lives nearby offered some German learning books for my children (for free as well!), and brought them round to our apartment, and also picked us up from the supermarket to give us a lift home after the big shop, saving me walking 2km with 40kg of shopping and 2 children!

And also some members making me feel very welcome by inviting me to meet up with them here and telling me a little about themselves

I am not having a good day. You will have to excuse me, I don't always get other people's jokes.
You know how much I dig you, but you really don't get a lot of jokes! LOL. Of course, you forgot to mention the EFer who dragged two ginormous tubs of that horrible Lawry's salt stuff in her suitcase so that you wouldn't go into Lawry's salt withdrawal. :P

I've had too many wonderful EF moments to list them. EFers are lovely, even the wacky weird and sarcastic ones.

That's true, sorry I didn't mention that "EF" member. Do you remember the time that "one" EF member bought you like 2 kilos of passion fruit and mailed them to you so you could make an "refreshing beverage" for you?

Hmm, I wonder who that person was? Hey, still using the Lawry's. Made 40 kilos of ribs for a party two weeks ago, and used it as my "secret weapon". I had some people asking how to make awesome ribs, and being pissed off they couldn't get the Lawrys here. You can make that combination as well...

I am little dense. I never understand blond jokes, and sometimes have to have things re explained to me in person. But you know that of course. No one has to get angry about that though.

It is true that EFers are great at keeping my fridge stocked with exotic fruits. Passion fruit for caipirinhas from one and key lime juice for key lime pie from another lovely EFer who I adore and REAL brown sugar from a secret source.....

Basically you all keep me fat and happy.

Re: EF at its very best ....

Nice thread, Odile.

I met some of my best friends thanks to the EF, people who have been there for me in Zurich, and still are there for me, even though I moved thousands of miles away. Friendships that last a lifetime, always welcome in my house and in my heart.

Too many acts of kindness to mention them all, but among many others, the non-judgemental hugs received when I needed them (when I was having a hard time in Switzerland), the fact that nobody ever shot videos of me singing "these boots are made for walkin'" at the karaoke, and the person who gave me Captain Morgan when I was drunk on absinthe.

I will make my way there one day, I promised you! I have not forgotten. You are always welcome to visit The Capital.

If memory serves me right, I believe it was a certain well known Prof.

But truth be told, it's all a bit...fuzzy.

That's what the hedgehog is for. A hedgehog improves anyone's day.
Even hedgehogs are soft if you stroke them the right way!

But going on the usual reaction from EFers if they think things are getting too slushy..... The midden will hit the windmill any minute now.*

Re: EF at its very best ....

As a visitor to Switzerland rather than a resident, I have made many good friends through EF and been welcomed by several members to their homes.

This has given me the opportunity to see places and activities that regular tourists would not be likely to see.

I have also welcomed some members to my home and met others over here in England.

EF for us has always been like those relatives that you don't meet often but can call for the smallest things and where you know that you will always always find an answer.

maybe there is no free lunch but there is definitely a free dinner , as my 2 swiss mosquito visitors last night will attest to.
