Rules regarding bringing goods in Switzerland

Hello.

I would like to ask when you shop for clothes in Italy and France and you are bringing it to Switzerland - how does that work regarding the tax.
I remember when I bought some fyrniture in France they deducted French VAT and I payed swiss VAT at the border. Does it work the same way for clothes? Is there any limit on how much I can buy?

Thanks.

Hi Zourab,

Have a look at this site from Swiss Customs http://www.ezv.admin.ch/zollinfo_pri...x.html?lang=en , all the information 'should' hopefully be on there.

Good luck

Simply put, if you buy to a limit of CHF 300 per person this is free of Swiss tax and you can claim back the tax of the foreign country - but that is your job. If you buy an amount that can be for your reasonable use then there is no limit on the value but it is due for Swiss VAT foreign VAT can be reclaimed as above. If the amount is "deemed" to be more than for your personal use(say buying 10 green shirts in sizes S, M, L and XL which makes it look like a business) then it becomes more tricky and you need to get declarations of origin and potentially pay duty.

Re: Rules regarding bringing goods in Switzerland

So when I buy for more than 300chf and it is for myself, I clim back the Italian VAT and pay the Swiss VAT, same way as I did when I brought the furniture from France.
Thanks for the clarification.
