Australian Justice of the Peace (Zürich)

Hello,

I was wondering if there are any Australian's here that are eligible as a 'Justice of the Peace' or knows of someone around Zürich who is? Or if anyone else could tell me what they have done in this situation...

The Australian consulate is in Geneva is only open Monday-Friday form 9-5 (very convenient hours of course) and i live in Zürich.

I would be very grateful to anyone who could possibly help me out!

Thanks!

Depends what you want I am not a JP but my accounting qualification is often suitable for signing of certain documents, take a look at what you need and PM me as it likely I am suitable

Is this for an Australian document that needs to be witnessed? Have you checked whether one of the usual culprits (solicitor, police officer, bank manager, etc.) will suffice here for the task? For example, passport applications don't require a JP's signature.

Justices of the Peace are appointed by each State. I'm not sure whether you'd need to find one registered in the State to which your document pertains, or even whether their powers apply over here ... sorry not to offer something more constructive.

Thank you!

Re: Australian Justice of the Peace (Zürich)

Hi everyone,
bumping this thread as we too are in desperate need of an Australian-registered Justice of the Peace (with a JP registration number) number. Has anyone come across one?

In this case the usual pharmacists, accounts etc won't cut it, nor would they accept the Swiss Notariat or any attestation from the Consulate in Geneva.

We would be ever so grateful.

Thanks in advance!

Check with the Australian Embassy in Bern or the Consulate in Geneva -- it's highly likely that they would have either a list of JPs in Switzerland, or captive JPs on staff.

Thanks 22 yards. The consulate doesn't have any information on JP's but the other party eventually agreed to accept the consul's witness thankfully.

If I am not mistaken there is an honorary consul in Zurich (who is also a lawyer), which should save you a trip to Berne or Geneva...
