Buying Swiss made watch from Switzerland

Hi,

I have been looking around stores and retail outlets for buying a genuine swiss made watch. I came across a number of brands and some of the watches seem very nice, have swiss made written on them but I can not find the website of that brand anywhere on the internet. I found a very nice watch of the brand Richelieu but I can not find it on the internet. I wanted to know whether fake swiss watches are even being sold in Switzerland in areas such as Winterthur, Zurich etc. Can I buy any watch with swiss made label from Switzerland and do not worry about it being fake ?

Re: Buying Swiss made watch from Switzerland

swatch is swiss made

how much do you want to spend? In Zurich HB there are a couple of tourist shops that sell brands such as swiss military etc starting quite cheap

Or try one of the many Christ stores, they have some cheapish watches right upto really quite expensive

Or Zurich high street has everything from swatch upto Piaget, hublot, rolex etc and some if you have to ask you can't afford brands

See here

Re: Buying Swiss made watch from Switzerland

I would want to keep it under 300 CHF. If I can get a genuine swiss watch under 200 CHF that would be great. Swatch have some cheap versions but lack a bit on class. I wanted to ask about the richelieu watches. I saw them in the Manor store in Winterthur and wanted to know whether they are real or fake ? I have seen the link that you shared and they do not even have Christ listed ? Are the christ watches swiss made ? I am wondering do they sell fake swiss made watches even in Switzerland ??

Re: Buying Swiss made watch from Switzerland

I don't think shops are allowed to sell fake watches or goods in Switzerland.

The customs people at the airports will sometimes inspect passengers' handbags to see if they are fake.

Re: Buying Swiss made watch from Switzerland

Christ is the name of the shop, they sell many brands

Manor won't be selling fakes either, the definition of swiss made is a bit wooly that site lists all the brands that fulfil the 'proper' meaning of swiss made. So not Chinese made and just assembled here

Manor won't be selling fakes. I don't know Richelieu, but they'll be a lesser known cheaper brand, rather than a fake.

But if you see one of the big luxury brands for 300 CHF, that'll be a fake.

i'd suggest no chance, esp in manor, are they 'fake' i.e. not made in Switz (i think it's 50% of the watch has to be made here) if it says swiss made on it. does it say swiss made on it?

i reckon though with watches at that price tag the mark-up is huge so you're buying a quartz movement craparama for a fair few notes. there are a lot of these about and fair play to the watch companies. imo i'd leave watches between 200 and 1000 alone for this reason. on the other hand, i'm no expert in any way and all my schooling has been done the wrong side of the windows on bahnoffstrasse ... in fact some of my friends like the tissot brand (they have a new shop on bhfstr) which has a few watches at your price range.

What kind of silly question is that, asking if watches sold in big department stores or jewellers are "fake". I mean... really?

Either way, your best bet if you want a quality watch at that budget level would be a German company but Swiss made like from Steinhart... http://www.steinhartwatches.de/en/diver-watch.html

The Ocean 1 Black, Swiss Made divers watch is particularly great value at 330 EUR and looks very manly and elegant. It's a Rlex homage, but only watch snobs will notice or care... http://www.steinhartwatches.de/en/OCEAN-1-BLACK,14.html

300chf in Switzerland will get you nothing to really appreciate.

I recommend this one (bought it 8 years ago, it is still awesome):

http://www.connox.de/kategorien/acce...m-680-690.html

its titanium with a saphire glass, swiss clock work, watchstrap can be puchased separatley to replace it yourself

Cheapest price in Germany (incl GST will be 249 Euros)

Doesn't have "Swiss made" written on it though...which I am guessing is important to the OP when showing to his friends and family.

Yea, there are some great reasonably priced German watches from the likes of Stowa, Laco, and (of course) Steinhart. My current favourite is a 55mm type-B Beobachteruhr from Laco.

Still, SFr. 300 isn't going to get you very much even from them. Squeeze yourself up to a grand (or so) and there are many more nice options.

Steinhardt Ocean 1... 400chf (its still in the same price bracket as 300chf imo and well worth the little extra) and this is an amazing watch that punches WAY above its price http://www.steinhartwatches.de/en/OCEAN-1-BLACK,14.html

It's a great quality watch with a solid movement, but we both know what the problem is with it...

(I've got a 1969 GMT Master coming to me when my dad dies; f**k it, I hope he makes the singularity, I've got enough watches).

What's the problem with it? Methinks nothing that anyone who wasn't a horological snob (OP most certainly doesn't fit into that category) looking to spend so little money would notice.

It's way outside the OP's price range, but I love the look of the Stowa aviation chronographs:

It's a Rolex ripoff. All of these companies are quite capable of making original and nice-looking watches. In my experience of wearing Rolexes, people are always curious as to whether it's a real or a fake. It just sucks to have to keep telling them it's a fake.

Re: Buying Swiss made watch from Switzerland

I saw a nice watch once, and was surprised that it was only 200 CHF.

I was corrected. It was Euros. 200,000 of them. I put away my wallet.

It was nice though. It had a black leather strap.

And, of course, don't forget good old Zeno; made in Basel. I've got their Army Diver (http://www.zeno-watch.ch/en/collecti.../485N-a1M.html) which I think is only about SFr 500 or so. Way cool chunky 60s diver style that nobody will confuse with a Rolex but still has that look.
