Re: Ukulele players in Zurich

People still play Ukelele`s?
¨
I have my old Dad`s old Ukelele - 4 strings - what an instrument in talented hands! Unfortunately the musical genes missed my generation.

Would love to witness whatever it is you are planning ......keep us informed of any outcome, and good luck with your venture.

Unfortunately these guys are not in Zürich! Are you looking for people to jam with or to teach or to learn yourself?

Re: Ukulele players in Zurich

Hey Divindaiana!

There ARE ukulele players around and I am one of them! Let's work together to get some regular event started here in Zurich. My good friend, Cedric, has a little facebook page and he also has been working to get a jam going. Check it out:

https://www.facebook.com/UkuleleSchweiz

I have a feeling there are a lot of ukulele players out there, but they need something to bring them out into the sunlight to share some fun together.

Thanks Yukio!

Then I think it's time to connect this group with the Ukulele MeetUp in Zürich, they are great and yesterday they played at an Open Mic: http://www.meetup.com/Zurich-Ukulele-Meetup/

Have a look, that's are a very cool group!

Re: Ukulele players in Zurich

Hello!

I am very interested in learning and playing the ukulele. I was first hoping to meet people and get ideas on what kind of ukulele to buy (and where). Do let me know when your next meeting is!

Re: Ukulele players in Zurich

Hey VG12th,

That Meetup group out of Zurich is good and you can check them out if you end up in that area.

As to a good starter instrument, I suggest you find one made by Ohana or Kala. These are mass-produced instruments and are relatively inexpensive, but they have good intonation (they play in tune) and are of dependable quality. Avoid ones with a lot of "bling" like fancy inlays or detailing graphics. Something relatively plain has to sell itself by sounding good, not looking good.

Also budget for an electronic tuner. This helps beginners get their instrument in tune quickly and easily and makes for more "happy time." Get one that clips to the headstock of the instrument and senses the vibration of the instrument directly to tell if it is in tune.

Then get a chord chart on line, think of a song that you like and want to learn how to play. Search for the title of the song plus the word "chords" and poke around until you find the lyrics and chords for the song. Refer to your chord chart to figure out how to finger the chords of the song and start strumming and singing the song you love the way you love to play it.

Be careful! The above activity can be very addictive!

Best of Luck
Yukio

Re: Ukulele players in Zurich

Hey thanks for the reply. Actually I would prefer to try out ukuleles first before buying one. I know they're not as expensive as guitars but it would make me feel more comfortable if I have more information on the different types and on what people generally recommend
