Certainly not my dad nor my granddad (his dad). Both of them are Shia Muslims (in name only ) as they drink alcohol on a regular basis and they neither pray nor observe Ramadan...

And you're surprised they don't adhere to sitting to pee?

No, I'm not surprised. Just wanted to point out that not all Muslims are observant!

Re: Men- stand or sit to pee?

There are two who sit down in this house and OH did it before I even met him.
He says he's always found it more comfortable to sit and be only stands to pee when using a public loo with a urinal.

The boy sits down because I sat him on the loo when he was potty training as he wasn't tall enough to stand, the teachers at school in Belgium when he started at age 3 sat all the kids ( boys and girls) on the loo whenever they went irrespective of what the were going for and he saw his father sitting down so it was just a habit he got into from an early age.

It suits me as there is no splashing or mess for me to have to clean up and as the boy would be peeing from a significant height there is great potential for misses.
What they do when they're not at hime doesn't bother me in the slightest.

Re: Men- stand or sit to pee?

Their choice- albeit unusual for UK or CH.

Point is, should they choose to stand, why oh why would YOU see it as up to you to clean up their mess???

Because I'm the one who cleans the bathroom and a quick wipe down by a 10 year old ( or however old he was at the time) does not constitute clean in my book.

Re: Men- stand or sit to pee?

Perhaps the OP could increase the number of options? It very much depends on the situation. With only stand or sit is kind of hard to answer.

Not as unusual as you imagine in the UK at least. I know of lots of UK men who sit to pee probably due to the popularity of fitted carpet in UK bathrooms. Cleaning a few drops up off a tiled floor us one thing but cleaning and getting rid off the stink from carpet is another thing entirely.

Could you not edit a post when it's already been quoted please? It makes it look as though half the post has been ignored in the reply with the original post quoted and not everyone notices a later edit and thus don't respond to it. Thanks.

Re: Men- stand or sit to pee?

I'm not sure how other felt, but I find the choice of words used by the judge are rather.....rude!

"Despite the increasing domestication of men in this regard..."

I always thought only animals can be domesticated!

The questions is: Rude to whom?
I understand that the judge criticizes Society for treating men like animals by trying to force a behaviour on them. I read this sentence and the use of the word "Domestizierung" as critical say against the will to Change men's behaviour. The negative connotation of the word Domestizierung is used to portray men as victim of an animal-like Treatment. If it is rude, then rude against People who want men to sit.

My son sits, he refuses to stand, even if we're out and the loo is nasty he will sit these are times I would stand if I had a choice!

Exactly! The word would appear to be rude to those who support sit-peeing whereas IMO, being a judge, he should be neutral and show no bias towards any side. For instance he could have written: "Despite the increasing civilization of men in this regard..."

Re: Men- stand or sit to pee?

what do you mean 'civilisation'??? Why would anyone consider it more civilised to sit or stand, as is natural for men to do? Civilised to clear up after yourself if you sprinkle, of course, and as urine is sterile, a quick wipe is fine. If the bathroom floor in this court case was badly damaged, it means the floor was wet with urine, and not just a drop here and there- and that is out of order and disgusting. So I think the Judge was wrong here.

As usual, we seem to live in a world of extremes nowadays- with one side saying the only civilised thing to do is to 'force' men to sit, when it is un-natural for them to do so (fine if they choose to, of course, and each to their own)- or to insist on standing but not take responsibility for cleaning up after oneself if and when necessary. Common sense out of the window again!

The only 'civilised' part about sitting, standing, hovering, or whatever peeing method one chooses, is to ensure the place is clean afterwards, be it the bowl or the floor, or lid, etc - as 8 year old grandson has been taught to do, and does.

Asked elsewhere on a UK only site, and it is unanymous, all the menfolk stand- apart from a few older ones who sit at night if they get up in the dark. Will report back on my 'survey' of local men here after the birthday party at lunch-time it will be a laugh anyhow.

Re: Men- stand or sit to pee?

about health, I've read since a few years that it was better for the prostate to sit and my urologist agree with that.

Now I also read it had no effect, so make your choice, mine is done....

Agreed, it was advised for my dad whn he was 92- to sit and bend forwards to ensure his bladder was empty.
