Fribourg DIY fans - new store to explore

Bauhaus opens its first store in the Swiss Romande on Saturday 21st February 2015.

Transaltion please.

This is ENGLISH forum -- the Mods object when i use sms textos in my replies, so how come legends get away with posting in French?

Nothing personal MF, just a matter of principle. In fact i love DIY and appreciate your heads up.

Re: Fribourg DIY fans - new store to explore

Here you go sva. My mistake, sorry.

"BAUHAUS, the specialist workshop, home and garden, gives the first sod of a new shopping center in Matran.

Matran / Belp, February 21, 2014 BAUHAUS, the specialist workshop, home and garden, gives the first sod of a new shopping center in Matran. This is an important event because Matran host the first BAUHAUS shopping center in western Switzerland.
The land extends to approximately 48'500 square meters and will house a shopping center with retail space of approximately 17'700 square meters. In a bright and welcoming, its stores offer over 120,000 quality products. The new BAUHAUS Matran also include a DRIVE-IN 5,000 square meters. Another highlight will be constituted by the garden center of more than 4,900 square meters. With this new building the company creates 120 new jobs and four new training places in the region."

Blame Google Translate for any shaky stuff.

It's getting pretty crowded down that area for DIY places. Migros DIY up in the Matran Avry Centre, Coop Bricolage down the road near the motorway and now Bauhaus.

Well, so much for Bauhaus being open. The OH wanted to see if they stocked something so went down there today on the way to the doctor's and no way is the place ready to open. Still very much a construction site, building's not finished, roads still being finished off.

Hi, how does Bauhaus compare to Migros DIY in terms of price and range of products?

A massive difference, much larger store and a lot cheaper for most things.

It's German - big there, with strong buying power from producers and suppliers.

The key is in the original article:

BAUHAUS, le spécialiste de l‘atelier, de la maison et du jardin, donne le premier coup de pioche d’un nouveau centre commercial à Matran.

The article just says that they are starting construction (that's the "premier coup de pioche" bit), not that the shop is going to open on any specific date.

Re: Fribourg DIY fans - new store to explore

Realised reading my first post again that the date given was Feb last year! My BIG error, sorry folks.

I've now seen the advert signs up around Fribourg saying the store will open at 7am on May 1st 2015 so this time you will be able to go and check it out.

Have fun all you DIY lovers.

Re: Fribourg DIY fans - new store to explore

Also, location is on Villars sur Glane side of the autobahn.
Address is Impasse de la Sablière, off Route de la Bagne.

As you travel back to Villars sur Glane from the autobahn, it'll be on the RHS - there's a couple of industrial units there, IIRC.

The stupid thing is, up till now, all Bauhaus packaging was in German; for the new store the packing will be only in French.
This, apparently, has caused a few problems with suppliers and producers in DE - how this will effect prices, remains to be seen.

From what you guys say, I assume the same applies in comparison to Jumpo?

Yes, pretty much. Bauhaus have bigger stores than Jumbo and we've found that all the DIY places seem to carry some different items that the others don't or their pricing is different so it pays to shop around.

It'll also be interesting to compare the prices in the new store here to the one at Bern Bümpliz.

Thanks MF, I couldn't thank your first post, EF became pretty fast in deactivating the thanks button for "older" posts. I am a big fan of DIY, it is great we would have a big one in the vicinity.

Re: Fribourg DIY fans - new store to explore

Having just looked at the map, from my location, north of Fribourg, it's only slightly closer than the store at Niederwangen (not Bumpliz) - and I can't help but think, that the left turn off the autobahn is going to be tricky, with all the extra traffic, on top of what there already is for Matran and Avry centres.

Re: Fribourg DIY fans - new store to explore

If anyone is thinking of going tomorrow on the official opening day .....then good luck.

I was there today for pre-opening (10 - 4) and the place was completely banged out. Glad I was on my bike and not with the car.

I got an 'invitation' in the post (they must have my details on computer from when I've used the Niederwangen store) - and it looked like half of Fribourg got one, too.

Did get a free gift, though - twice.

Access and parking could be a problem, to begin with, until everyone's had a nose around.

No left turn - everyone goes right, then you double back from the roundabout.
