Contact a wedding agency in the country you are going to?
We married in Belgium while living in CH . They took care of nearly everything after a list of what we wanted. Turned out perfect

Re: wedding abroad

That should be easy to find, google e.g. "site:.ch heiraten in griechenland" (without the ""). By using "site:.ch" you only get results from swiss websites.

www.legendstravel.ch are a high-end swiss travel agency that also offer weddings on Mauritius and the Seychelles (I have no personal experience with them). The wedding price itself seems reasonable, but all else ... has its price. But since it's your wedding ... (check their offers, link is in the page footer).

Re: wedding abroad

If you are doing it in Greece contact any hotel and they will throw the wedding planners right your way. Specially if you book the hotel for your guests.... .

Any reputable hotel in the world really will have a connection to a weddingplanner....

Re: wedding abroad

Dear Marisa,

My partner and I were married on the Greek island Kephalonia last year. Great location and it was really easy and well handled by this company

http://www.ionianweddings.co.uk/

They can arrange the documentation for you (I would recommend this) and will meet you on the island ahead of time to discuss the final arrangements.

As I say, really good, we had a wonderful time, and I'd recommend. If you've any other questions feel free to let me know over pm, happy to help.

cheers

Depends on your circumstances

1) What Nationality are you both
2) Have you been married previously
2a) divorced
2b) widow/ widower

All necessary documents will need to be translated into Greek by an officially recognised Translater. They like the seals and rubber stamping.

My girlfriend is Greek, so she knows what she needs, but not me, the foreigner. I am Japanese, and we have not been married previously.

We might also get married in Zurich once we move there soon, it might be easier to contact the local consulates in Zurich and get the papers in the local language.

Re: wedding abroad

I am a photographer and cover mostly destination weddings, often couples will get married legally where they live but have a ceremony somewhere else. This is an option too.

Very common. I know someone who is in Greece if you need a wedding photographer there

Re: wedding abroad

She will need her Greek ID. You will need your passport.

1) You need your full birth certificate, the short version is not acceptable. The kind that shows the names of both your parents and their professions at your birth. (if you mother is listed as housewife that is fine)

2) This is a bit complicated as you are Japanese and I am not expert, but I try to help you :-
Believe you will need a "Single Status" letter

The "Single Status" letter is a document issued from your country's consulate or embassy that ensures that there is not a problem for you to get married.

2b) Certificate of No Impediment this document certifies that you are free to marry and can be obtained from your local registrar and can take up to a month to obtain, this certificate must not be issued more than three months prior to the wedding date

Note 1:
All foreign documents (before being translated) must bear the Hague stamp "Apostille" (for documents of countries which have signed this treaty) and must be completed at least one month before the wedding.

For the remaining countries, instead of the Hague stamp, an certification of the signature of the person signing the foreign text is required from the Greek Consulate in the country of issue of the certificate or from the consulate of the country itself in Greece and then from the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Note 2:
All foreign documents (except passports) must be officially translated into Greek. Make sure whoever is translating is officially recognised. (You may be advised by various sources that a Greek Lawyer is required, that is not correct, but if you wish to spend extra money on one, I am not stopping you!)

You will need 2 witnesses at the wedding, if they are Greek, then they will need Greek ID, if not Greek they will need their Passport.

If you decide to Marry in Greece, I would suggest once you have all the documents in order, you scan them to someone in Greece to check at the local Town Hall everything is in order before your departure.

I am not sure whether you have to be in Greece for a week before you Marry, no doubt your partner can find out.

There are various fees, I have not gone into. e.g. each UK Apostille is currently charged £30 by the UK Government Foreign and Commonwealth Office, but you are not UK.

Good luck to you both

Re: wedding abroad

This is kind of the point of having a company take care of this for you, but I have this detail from when I went through it. May be different for you, I'm not sure about distinctions between nationalities.

Original long form British birth certificate or proof of registration or naturalisation certificate
Evidence that you have resided in Switzerland for 21 days or more (Swiss residence permit or proof of present address: utility bill/rental agreement/tax return)
Original of your fiancé(e)'s passport or ID card (copy acceptable if the fiancé(e) is not resident in Switzerland)
If you are divorced or widowed, your divorce decree absolute or former spouse's death certificate
If your fiancé(e) is divorced or widowed, a copy of their divorce decree absolute or former spouse's death certificate
If you have changed your name, your deed poll
An apostile

All of the above will have to be translated into the language of the country in which you intend to marry, and crucially, the translation approved by a recognised company.

It's quite a lot, we managed this ourselves, but I would have wished that I had paid to have them help us with this. It was a real pain running between various embassies in Berne and Budapest (my wife is Hungarian), and the Greek embassy to approve the documents.

Take my advice, pay for someone to take the strain, you will still have to run around a bit, but someone will manage it for you - and crucially, and I can't stress this enough START EARLY!

Re: wedding abroad

If you want your wedding to be recognised in Switzerland and used as grounds for one partner to get a Swiss permit then it is worth checking if you need any extra documentation.
