Need to replace toilet seat

Much to my embarrassment, I have sat on and consequently broken the white plastic loo seat in our apartment. This is an apartment owned by my husband's employer for our temporary use (while we find our feet), and we would like to just replace it rather than go through formal channels.....

Where would be the best place to go shopping for a new one??

Re: Need to replace toilet seat

The Manor store in Geneva will have a new one or else I am sure the Jumbo or Migros Brico will.

Special purchase offer at Aldi, as of yesterday (Thurs. 12/3) for less than 20 chufs.

Re: Need to replace toilet seat

But do make sure you replace it with a seat of same quality- Loo seats vary hugely in price ... and quality- and it is very apparent.

Re: Need to replace toilet seat

although fairly easy to change, if convenient take a photo and have a good look at the fittings, as they do vary before you go shopping.

prices also vary, have seen them for 3 figures.

Re: Need to replace toilet seat

I had to change mine when I moved into my current flat, after finally identifying the seat as the source of a persistent smell which no amount of scrubbing the toilet itself would get rid of. Fiddling with very tight wingnuts at an impossible angle under a smelly toilet is not the nicest thing I have done in the last year !

Jumbo has a big selection though :-)

A new seat should come with an adapter tool to use on these wingnuts for easier fitting - it can be used for removal of old seat, too.

Re: Need to replace toilet seat

Currently 88 seats to choose from - they'll deliver or you can head to the store of your choice after checking out availability of the seat you'd like to purchase.

No need to go through any channels - especially as you'd be paying for the replacement out of your own pocket anyway since replacing toilet seats isn't the landlord's responsibility except if the seat was already faulty at the start of a lease.

I'd say these should cover any fitting problems you could encounter.

Re: Need to replace toilet seat

Thank you everyone - we went to Aldi today but that toilet seat didn't have the right kind of fittings, so then we went to Migros Do It at Carouge and found many, many possibilities - including one that was very like the one I broke. I've been trying to figure out particular people who have posted here....does anyone have the time to explain how I do that??
