It is a well know fact that Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart had invented the piano before he could walk and the violin before he could talk. Just like the Glorious North Korean Leader.

Just put on any CD of nursery rhymes or similar music and if baby wants to clap and jig around (with your help) then that's all you need.

I have seen some at some local toy stores. Are there any you specifically recommend?

Thanks

not that near to neuchatel but you can look for kindermusik type groups!

we're in delemont and i saw an ad at the children's library a while ago and we've been going - my son was a bit older then 6 months (14 months) when we started going.

never too early (:

If nothing else I imagine it's a good way to learn some new songs and games. Especially if you're an only or a younger child, you may not remember the songs your parents used to sing with you. I was the eldest in a fairly large family - and I still had to google for some missing words when my two came along.

I don't have kids of my own, but noticed with my nieces that some of the words of the songs I remember have been changed - for political correctness. And as kids we used to sing them without having the faintest idea what they meant.

Apart from the music and rhythm aspect there is also a social aspect for both babies and parents.
Music classes for babies and their parents/carers are not really about creating a load of mini Mozarts.

Re: Music Classes for 6 month old baby - Neuchatel

Developed by experts :EEK!:

If you don't find any "classes", then plinking on an old guitar and singing silly songs at every opportunity are more than adequate alternatives for children of that age. Variations on a child's name (monosyllabic names make a great bass line; polysyllabic names work well as flourishes) are always popular with little ones.

Nothing wrong with CDs and DVDs either, but I've noticed that ours respond particularly well to real instruments and voices (they like to watch my fingers on the strings). Proficiency is irrelevant - a baby has no idea what a well played instrument should sound like. They're the best audience you could ever have!

Things like Ba Ba Rainbow sheep (now)...We are now teaching kids to live in a fairy tale and instead of growing up to the real world...

Re: Music Classes for 6 month old baby - Neuchatel

Am I the only one to find that website somewhat strange?

The German version of the text looks as if it was translated from English. The text is bumpy and doesn't flow well and there might have been more efficient ways of saying some of these things in German. So a German speaker might have proofread it (Grammar seems OK) but that person wasn't a musician or familiar with musical terminology. Is it not strange that a music school cannot find a musician?

The French page seems to use even English place names (Vienna, Munich, ..)

There's nothing wrong with a website that's designed on a shoestring. We don't all have money to lavish on high-end copy editors. But then the photos and graphic design used do smell of a lot of money being invested. So a rather inconsistent approach?

Or am I scratching too deep?

This is what you think about. Being a music teacher myself, I find it very smart to sing to small children, teach them nursery rhymes and so on. Parents are the first teachers and have an immense influence. Sing and rhyme at home as often as you can and get yourself company and inspiration in a class.

Later in music class at school, I can always spot a child who has been sung to and sung with. They have it much easier in sports and in learning languages. One of my colleagues - who is a sports teacher - tells me that many kids have an underdeveloped sense for rhythms, e.g. have problems to sort out their legs if they have to perform a set of steps prior to a jump...

Have fun!

You might give the conservatoire by the station in Neuchatel a call. http://www.cmne.ch My 3 year old is in a class there, and really likes it. Not sure what the starting age might be.

There is quite a big difference between 6 months and 3 years...

This was my class in the Isle of Man and there are many like it. I'm very happy to set one of these up here if there is enough interest.
