where to find 1 square m or bigger wood pieces?

Hi everyone!

I am really sorry if this is not the place for this question but I do not know where else to place it.

I am looking for photography backdrops for food photography. Meaning, 1 square meter or bigger, light if possible, pieces of cool or old looking wood, metal, marble or anything else with an interesting color and structure.

I really don't know where else to look. I can't afford to store whole tables just for the tabletops so I could really use an advice on where else to look. Already regularly checking the Brockenhauses around town (Zurich). Even thought about going to the scrap yard but can't seem to find if there are any with open access.

Would really appreciate your help!

Thank you,
Mojca

Jumbo and Bauhaus (and probably other big DIY chains) can cut wood panels to measure on a giant vertical jig-saw, from even bigger pieces.
You can choose the type and thickness of wood used.

Your biggest problem is going to be transporting it - the bigger it is, the heavier it is ..... and the bigger it is.

Go to a Brockhaus and ask if they have any old doors. I have plenty here- but I am too far away.

Or just your local carpenter's or woodwork place.

I second the Brockhaus idea. Also, perhaps you can try using pallets, which you may be able to retrieve from a store like Migros.

If that fails, try apple crates which you can get at Jumbo. You can make them look worn, old.

You could go to a "Sägerei" (sawmill) nearby:

Plenty of different wood to choose from.

I imagine there are also junkyards for these kinds of things. When I throw away things at our local recycling centre (abfallgruebe), I see such things.

Re: where to find 1 square m or bigger wood pieces?

You can borrow a few pieces from me if you do pick up and return, I work a lot with reclaimed wood so I have a few old barn doors and window shutters ect. PM me for details or email via or see www.noonwoodwork.com
