Shipping car from Canada to Switzerland

Hello, my husband and I will need to ship our car from Canada (ottawa) to Zurich area. Could someone please advise on the cost and suggest some agencies that would do this? Also, are there any considerations or troubles that we should expect? The vehicle is a 2013 Audi A5

Yes, don't.

Really, it's not worth it unless you got a screaming deal on it or have very high emotional attachment to it.

Check Comparis.ch for comparison of many things; from health insurance to cars, etc.

https://en.comparis.ch/

I moved from Vancouver a few months ago and can provide you with further details if you wish.

The search function will throw up a ton of tips on importing. As long as your car conforms to Swiss spec thats fine, if not you'll have to modify potentially, lights, speedo, exhausts etc. There there cost of shipping, importing, taxes etc, and ultimately to cost of Swissifying it. Also as the cars will be stamped as imported so would have a lower value should you try to sell it, or would have to repeat the nausea' to export and re-import it.

Sometimes the cost and hassle simply isn't worth it, unless the car is special (Audi's are common) or a classic.

What do you mean "what"?

Pretty straight forwards - it's more than likely not worth the hassle.

Your sentence structure didn't make sense.. by reading slowly and few times I worked out what you meant.

Possibly true possibly not.

Flat light beam is ok, speedo must have kms. Thousands import from USA without issues so wouldn't worry about exhausts.

As for import stamp, for Joe public this doesn't make blindest bit of difference in the 2nd hand market.

If all the stuff is coming over in a container anyway a car doesn't make much difference.

Then maybe English just isn't for you.

Read it in context with the op:
"can anyone advise"
"Yes, don't (do it)."

"Unless you got a screaming deal on (the car you referenced), or are emotionally attached to (the car you referenced"

Hi there , just giving my 4 cents based on my experience .
Last time i shipped a car from Canada ( Toronto ) was in january 2013 with Mississagua company called All freight .
It cost me 1300 cdn $ to Bremerhaven Germany. It took about 4 weeks to get there.
My suggestion to you is try from Montreal since you are close by and rates are cheaper.
Good luck with that.

Re: Shipping car from Canada to Switzerland

Thank you for the advice. Given proximity to Montreal it is certainly reasonable to do from there. Could you please let me know whether you had your own container or shared with someone?

It's very clearly marked on the grey card, box N°36, and most people know about this and the price is reflected accordingly

That's what I meant - people care about it and the price one will get on the 2nd hand market will be lower

Thats why I said potentially.

The guy I know with a US Porker cabriolet who spent 13k and took months to get his swissified with sat nav remapping, radio and something on the ECU as I recall. There was also an issue with the xenons and that was huge to sort and he went back to halogen on cost grounds, would also tell you differently.

So, potentially it could be fine, potentially could be expensive, and it will be certainly be worth less than a euro or CH car 2nd hand, and drastically less to a dealer as its imported.

Ideal, find a private person not in the know (read gulable foreigner) and no problem....but somebody in the know or a dealer, the teeth are already comming out of his ass from all the sucking

Two of my bikes are imported, and there is nothing special in the grey card to indicate it.
