Drawer Slides / Hardware store suggestions

Hi All,

I'm in process of building two drawers for a cabinet and am especially in need of ball-bearing based drawer slides. As the drawers aren't too deep, but I would like to make them fairly strong, I am not able to find Drawer slides weighted at least 20kg but that are no longer than 30cm and fully extendable. I've looked online and found a few solutions from e.g. a German brand called Hettich, but I am struggling to find a way to purchase them in CH (either directly or importing.)

Thus the question: Any carpenters or handyman out there that can recommend either a good shop around Zürich or an online site that ships to CH that would have a good selection of Drawer slides? I've tried Migro Do-It and Jumbo already...

An example of what I'm looking for:

Many thanks for any advice.

Ricardo:

- scroll down past the first dozen items of furniture - there appears to be one supplier offering a variety of types. You may be able to contact him directly, failing that sign up to Ricardo and buy in the normal way.

I think they're just normal runners, though - not using BBs.

On the above link page a private seller is offering a pair originally from Ikea - maybe Ikea offer them separate from flat pack furniture.

Also worth checking EBay.ch

Possibly, these people - if they're not trade only, and deal with Joe Public.

Re: Drawer Slides / Hardware store suggestions

Have you tried Hornbach?

They may not have all of these in stock in Switzerland.

This one may be suitable

300mm 35Kg.

Others here which you can peruse.

Re: Drawer Slides / Hardware store suggestions

Thanks all. Hornbach would have been perfect, but for some reason the CH site doesn't carry any drawer slides and the German version won't ship to CH.

Opo looks like it has options, but I will need to call them to see if they sell to individuals before taking a trip out there.

Ricardo unfortunately seems to just have the other slides, and I'd really like the ball bearing based ones.

In the meantime, if anyone knows of an online solution, I'd be very appreciative.

As Hornbach would have been perfect you probably want to ask them if the german stuff can somehow be made available in CH.

If you still can't find any solutions in the next couple of weeks I will be going to Germany and can pick them up for you and bring them back.

Re: Drawer Slides / Hardware store suggestions

Jumbo at Hinwil do stock them, not sure if you tried a smaller Jumbo or the specific ones aren't what you need.

Re: Drawer Slides / Hardware store suggestions

I recently bought drawer slides from this site in the UK:

http://www.eurofitdirect.co.uk/

I think the postage was about £20 to a German PO box just over the border (it looks like it would be ~£30 direct to Switzerland).

I spent a lot of time loooking round the Swiss DIY stores and German online sites, but the prices (and quality) of the ones from this UK site made financial sense to me, even with the postage.

I did but quite a few hinges and slides though, and when I saw how cheap some of their draper tools were I added in a bunch of these which easily negated the delivery cost.

Take a trip to Obi in Waldshut. They have a good selection though ironically I found what I needed at Jumbo, rather than Obi.

Re: Drawer Slides / Hardware store suggestions

PS.

These are the ones I bought:

http://www.eurofitdirect.co.uk/46mm-ball-bearing-slides

They are rated up to 45 kg, and they do seem very strong (and easy to fit!). I think mine were 450 mm long (£6.50 per pair), but they also do some at 300 mm (£4.50 per pair) and 250 mm (£3.74 per pair).

They also do heavy duty ones in a range of lengths.
