A comedian`s response to Cyst-ISIS.

I don`t want to start any EF war, am posting this because I find it interesting (you may not)...... but I saw this on FB - a rather different approach to the ISIS problem plaguing Europe lately, and thought it a rather interesting response, by a professional comedian.

Here is his article quoted:

I’ve been called a lot of things in the past few days, many of them deserved. “Leftie wanker”. “Islam apologist”. “Unfunny ****.” I’ve also been called a “traitor” and even worse, “un-Australian.”
Here’s why I don’t think those last two apply.

Earlier this year I was invited to an Australia Day drinks function at the Australian High Commission in London. As the beer flowed and the lamingtons were passed around I found myself in deep conversation with a variety of governmental experts on The Middle East and in particular, Syria.
As this was a few weeks after the Charlie Hebdo attacks I took the opportunity to find out all I could about this so-called Islamic State group.
I learned a lot of things that night, but the one that stood out was this: Islamic State need recruits and they have two steps to get them.

1) Create an uprising against Muslims in the West by carrying out attacks in the name of Allah.

2) Then when young Muslims feel rejected by Western society, make ISIS look like a cool alternative.

Please remember, this was all expressed to me by officials of both the Australian and British Governments.

It seemed to me that a good way of combatting this would be
1) be nice to non-ISIS related Muslims (ie the vast majority of Muslims) and 2) make ISIS look like idiots.

I ran this past my friends at the High Commission, who agreed that this was indeed a good thing to do.

Now there aren’t a lot of things a one-legged comedian can do to combat a bunch of pricks like ISIS, but when experts in the field from your own government tell you what you can do – you damn well do it.

The next week on the show I host - “The Last Leg” - we ran an on-air competition to rename ISIS. The winner was a lady who tweeted “Cyst-ISIS: cos they’re irritating twats”. From that day forth we only ever referred to them as Cystisis.

We then ran a weekly segment called “The G-Hadi Spot” in which we attempted to ridicule them whenever we could.

We played Cystisis training videos with the Benny Hill music over the top. We celebrated the young girls who defrauded them out of thousands of dollars. We made our own ads for the caliphate, in which we clearly mocked them.
We also increased security at the studios.

A live TV show would be the perfect target for these arseholes, and to this day my Mum still pleads with me not to provoke them each week.
In amongst all this, I did my best to remind our viewers that Cystisis are interpreting the Islamic faith in a highly extreme, and self-serving way, and that the vast, vast, vast majority of Muslims – around 99.997 per cent – disapprove of them.
I did all this, not because I am a hippy dippy idealist who believes that fairy wings and puppy dog farts can change the world. I did this because I was advised by representatives of my government who are way smarter than I am, that it was the right thing to do.

I might be an unfunny leftie wanker, but I’m no traitor.

And the thing is – you can do it too. There are countless memes going around at the moment decrying Islam; there are people saying their businesses are closed to Muslims; there are jokes going around making Muslims the punchline.

All you have to do is use the word ISIS instead of Islam. Mock the arseholes who are really causing the damage. Cos they hate that. Call them Cystisis. Say your business is closed to any Cystisis member who wants your services. Make a meme about how deluded Cystisis are.

It’s what your government wants you to do.
And what could be more Australian than taking the piss out of those who deserve it, while giving a fair go to those who need it?

End of quote.

Anyone think this a good idea? Or not? If not, why not?

This TV sketch is one year old... and explains the Western history of "inventions" in the middle east all the way to ISIS.

Re: A comedian`s response to Cyst-ISIS.

I am very afraid I'm going to burst your bubble, but.....

This thing started out funny and it just fizzled when the jokes made were at the expense of women. A few men (isis) abuse both men and women, but mostly women. This joke says that it's OK to abuse and ridicule the women - body parts and all, but not the men.

The unfunny bit: men also get cyctitis. Is "twat" a word that is commonly and regularly used in the UK as an accepted word, or is it only a derogatory term? I hope you see where I'm going with this, so I'll stop.

Smoky, I am sure you can do better than this.

P.S. I think this should be in the jokes thread, if not erased.

It's regularly used both as a derogatory term and a NSFW term for female genitalia, but not as NSFW as c*nt. Both men and women get called twats. Cystitis is far more common among women. Therefore Cystisis (because they're irritating twats) seems to me to be a quite a clever play on words rather than sexist. The people group being abused and ridiculed are ISIS.

I do not know, however, how twat is perceived in Australia.

I think FunnyBone should start searching her surroundings, and see this joke for what it is: Australian humour.

Please, please, no more political correctness! The world has had enough!

Re: A comedian`s response to Cyst-ISIS.

People have been taking the piss out of ISIS for ages.

Better still people should take the piss out of the whole of Islam for the utter joke it is. As Ricky Gervais said, "Everyone has the right to believe whatever they want. And everyone else has the right to find it funking ridiculous."

Back to ISIS, this is far better than cystitis jokes.

No, I just don't agree with it. Why should religion be given some special status where it shouldn't be the punchline of any jokes? Because 132 people lost their lives in Paris? The world would be a far better place without religion.

Re: A comedian`s response to Cyst-ISIS.

I liked Frankie Boyles response to America shutting its borders to Syrian Refugees because of the attacks in Paris, which was basically the exact knee jerk response that CystISIS were after.

"I suppose the USA is worried that refugees might get involved in mass shooting just to try to fit in".

Sorry, yes - I thought it may offend some so I apologise. But NO it should not be in the jokes thread - rather it be erased. This radical element is not a joke - they are murderers.

On second thoughts, having discussed the viewpoint of the comedian who wrote this, with other folk, I actually don`t think it is a good idea to adopt that attitude. I don`t think any attitude would help or hinder their cause.

The only attitude (in my and many others opinions) to make any effect is to collectively (Europe) to institute what the military use in their own training - "Collective Guilt".

In this way people who appreciate and care about living peacefully in a safe environment help to protect their own interests. One (or more) person/s guilty of planning or instituting violence causes them all to lose their privileges - losing their "safe asylum" status and are all expelled (guilty in cohesion).

Each center of refugees is collectively responsible for the behavior of their compatriots. Any guilty person is then not protected by the others - they either behave or get reported to the authorities.

Same as in the military. One person defying authority causes everyone to lose their privileges. They don`t do it again - because the others have much to lose. If they defy their co-living compatriots - they suffer. In this way any subversive/criminal elements would be sorted out. And allow the host country to continue supporting those who truly deserve asylum.
