Donating bikes for charity

I have searched the forums and can't seem to find a thread about this - please feel free to redirect me if I am missing something obvious ;-)

My other half upgraded his bikes this year, and we now have a couple of 'spares' taking up space in our overcrowded garage.

One of them is a mountain bike that needs one spoke replace (rear wheel).
Te otehr is a road bike which would benefit from new tyres, but is in otherwise decent shape.

Before we throw them away, is anyone collecting bikes for a charitable cause?

They would need to be collected from near Lachen, SZ.

Re: Donating bikes for charity

You could enquire of Hiob.ch, though they would probably not have the funds/staff to collect them. If you've the energy to take them to a Hiob Brockenhaus (2nd hand charity shop which sends bicycles to poorer areas of Eastern Europe, or something like that, I think) you could do so by train, at Fr. 12 per bicycle (plus your own fare, of course). That might work out a lot cheaper than the municipal fees for really throwing them away. And thanks for not wanting to do that.

Or take them to a refugee centre. Remember that the refugees, too, would probably not have the train-fare to come to collect the bikes from you.

Or if your focus is that you really, really want them collected (rather than the focus being that they go to a charity), you could advertise them for free, to give away (gratis zu verschenken) on fleedoo, tutt, in gratis-inserate, in couchsurfing... or on this forum.

Velafrica:

You can take bikes to donate to the Gepackschalter at most Swiss train stations, as well as other collection points. There is a search field in the link above to find your nearest collection point.

If you take it to a Bahnhof Gepackschalter you will need a transport Gutschein which you can get from the organization (gratis) - fill out the contact formula.
