Sorry, I don't know what this is called in English or German, but I've noticed a lot of people where I live have what looks like printed film (in various patterns) that they have stuck to the inside of their windows. It seems to be an alternative to net curtains if you want a bit of privacy.

Does anyone know what I am talking about, and if so where you can buy some?

Re-reading my original post, I thought it sounded a bit confusing

So I've done a bit more research and it seems that it is called printed self-adhesive; it comes in a roll and you just cut it to your window size and stick it to the inside.

I know what you mean. You can find at good'ol IKEA plain ones (without patterns), in the department where the curtains/blinds are.
