Sending secondhand books to Germany

I will be sending some secondhand books to a friend in Germany. Anyone know whether this friend of mine has to pay some import duty although these books are secondhand or if I declare them as a present? I haven't asked the post yet.

Re: Sending secondhand books to Germany

Declare them as used second hand books (German English?). You still pay import taxes on gifts. You could go to Germany and post them there.

Looks like that's my only option. Thanks!

There are about 10 books. No specific time as long as they reach my friend before Christmas.
