Aeroflot to Moscow

I may have made a mistake, but I bought a ticket from Zurich to LAX, with a ~15 hr layover in Moscow. Is it worth going through the hassle of getting a visa for such a short amount of time. It would be interesting to see Moscow, but not if it is going to be too expensive and time consuming to obtain a visa for just a few hours.

Re: Aeroflot to Moscow

Not sure you would get a visa as you'd need a hotel booking voucher number or private address invite..

The visa is a pain then again 15hours in a Moscow airport is not so great either.

Its about an hour into town..depends how busy the airport is add on another hour getting out or back in. Being safe you'd have 9 hours in town - Red square, kremlin something to eat and back to the airport.

on the presumption you arrive and depart at Sheremetyevo

Re: Aeroflot to Moscow

go for it - when will you go back? SVO is still not a place you want to stay for more than needed and might as well get the extra leg work before an 11 hour flight.
When are you going?
Am fairly certain http://rusvisa.org/ can sort it out. The cost for the visa support is 12$.

What a creative way to fly to Los Angeles!

There's a transit visa available that allows you to leave the airport for up to three days. Visas for US citizens are somewhat pricey.

If you travel from Sheremetyevo into Moscow, consider taking the Aeroexpress train, rather than a taxi, as Moscow can be very congested. Then either a taxi from the Moscow Belorussky train station or, for the somewhat daring, the metro to Red Square.

Re: Aeroflot to Moscow

Even if the ticket was cheap, a 15-hr layover anywhere sounds not fun to me. The direct flight from ZRH to LAX (westbound) is only about 12 hrs.

Re: Aeroflot to Moscow

Even when the ticket was a bargain, i prefer BA or Cathay Pacific .
The Ratings for aeroflot are not that good compared to airlines from asia
or the middle east(emirates or etihad)
I would not take a 15 hour layover at an "airport what can not compete against
Heathrow, Changi or Hong Kong International into consideration .

There is a Hotel at the airport, where Edward Snowden took shelter.

Once you are out of the airport, you will be send directly to GULAG. Better stay inside.
Bring the repellent cream so that the huge mosquitoes are not eating you meanwhile. Sometimes they fly all over the building and it is not fun, believe me.
