PS4 HELP! Need 2TB USB HDD in FAT32 format

Hello,

Bought a new ps4 for my son. During set up I chose country UK as it is in English. If choose Switzerland then only in FR or DE so I wouldn't be able to do setup!

However, when you buy credit for playing online i.e. like itunes vouchers you can buy a shop checkouts - it is only for Switzerland! So now have a system that doesn't work and a child that it inconsolable...because of me.

So I read on line how to backup & restore data to PS4. However, I need a 2TB usb external disk drive or flash drive that is in or can be formatted to FAT32 - otherwise the PS4 does not recognise it.

Anyone know where I can buy one in / around Geneva area please??

Or know anyway I can get this sorted? I wanted to restore to factory settings then redo set up with country Switzerland and then reinstall backed up data.

Thx in adv,

Don't Panic! You don't need to do anything. If you need to top up your PS4 account just do so online from UK based shop. Amazon, Game.co.uk, CD Keys etc. can all be used with a Swiss credit card. If you have a UK credit or debit card, you can also register that to use with the Playstation Store. Failing that, you can also use a Paypal account.

Re: PS4 HELP! Need 2TB USB HDD in FAT32 format

Actually, that helps somewhat, but I wish I had known that before. Just realised however, still in same situation.

I backed up and deleted all the data ALREADY so the ps4 has no data on it....and I can't get the ps4 to recognise ANY of the external drives I backed the info on to... So I still need to find a FAT32 compatible HDD
Have followed ps4 recommended way but it doesn't work.

Re: PS4 HELP! Need 2TB USB HDD in FAT32 format

Just pop into an Interdiscount, m-electronics, Manor, Media Markt, and get an external harddrive. Most, if not any (save those specifically trageted to Mac/Apple), are allready FAT32 formatted. If not, plug it into your computer and format it as desired. All you gotta do is repeat after me, A-B-C, easy as 1-2-3 , ...

Re: PS4 HELP! Need 2TB USB HDD in FAT32 format

Or you could just pop the PS4 back into its box and return it to the shop?

He will lose all his game data...otherwise believe me I would. Wasted sooo much time trying to resolve this issue.

But appreciate the help. Wish I had tried on here BEFORE attempting anything as others here have probably been in the same situation.

I have bought TWO already - just for THIS issue - oh well no excuse now not to back up our pc's and photos but the ones I found available were only exfat....I did ask in the some of the shops that I visited for FAT32 format, but just got a blank stare LOL You did mention some other shops that I actually hadn't thought of...so I will try the whole process again A - B - C....and hopefully get the data backed up and then try LOZ1983 suggestion.

Just a message to SAY thankyou for all the helpful input! I can;t seem to thank anyone yet!

Re: PS4 HELP! Need 2TB USB HDD in FAT32 format

You don't BUY a disk in FAT32 format - you format it later yourself. You can format a hard disk in whatever format you want when you have bought it from the shop.

How? THe HDD's that I have came with a drop down list only giving NTFS(was one option I think?) and the other exFAT...no Fat32 option.

So that is why I was looking for a HDD that gave me the opportunity to format to fat32.

How would I do this then if only have the 2 options? Is it still possible?
Thx

As long as you can connect the disc to a computer (Conrad sells USB-Sata cables and such) then you can format the disk to Fat32. You may need to install a utility to add Fat32 facilities to the disk management of your OS - I'm not sure, but I think this may also be true for Apple computers.

The disk hardware doesn't have anything to do with the format.

Isn't the game data stored online on the cloud?

You didn't buy a Playstation PSN subscription also to access the online features?

Yes, and that's where the issue began. So just, mere minutes ago, bought a PSN 50chf voucher but PS4 was COUNTRY: UK therefore wouldn't work.

Followed the fab advice below and purchased online PSN credit via game.co.uk - son has just bought the PSN subscription for online games, playing with friends etc!! YAY.

And....also didn't need to reformat drive to fat32 either....plugged external HDD with backup data on - AFTER blowing connections for possible dust etc and today it was recognised by the PS4 (yesterday it wasn't). So all working, inorder and online set up done - result

Now wish I had posted on here instead of wasting hours searching PS4 forums etc - EF'ers had the answers! many thanks

Glad you got it sorted anyway, I still remember the crushing disappointment felt when my dad couldn't get things working right that I desperately wanted to play on asap.
