Re: Dishwasher & Washing-Machine Cleaning

I'd also heard not to use the cheap ones as they do not dissolve very well apparantley so I buy the expensive ones but stock up on them when they are on special offer at the Coop.

Now, this is completely contrary to the advice I received from our dishwasher service man. He told me not to worry about buying cheap dishwasher tablets as they all did the same job. I am now wondering about this. It is the first `(non human) dishwasher I've had for eight years. Should I be buying premium dishwasher tablets or stick to the budget ones we've been using for 9 months?

I was told the same thing; I buy the less expensive tablets but make sure that there is always salt in the machine. I was also advised not to always use the same program (for whatever reasons that I don't remember).

Calgon and Sun do tabs that are specific for dishwashers, available in the bigger Migros. It's basically a decalcifier.
Now that I'm home.

One is Calgonit "fusion power" Maschinenpfleger Rénovite, comes in 250ml bottle.

The sun thing is essentially the same in powder form in 3x40g sachets

Re: Dishwasher & Washing-Machine Cleaning

Thanks for that. I read French pretty well, so no worries. Poured almost a kilo of salt into the salt bin, and the light keeps flashing, so i guess i will call the company to ask. My dishwasher is a Zug brand...i am sure they can tell me what to do.

Thanks for the advice.

If you don't feel like a language lesson in F/G/I, try googling your model- most are sold Europe-wide and you'll probably find the manuel in English. Otherwise, copy or scan it in French, send it to me and I'd be happy to translate it for you.

How old is your machine, and when was the last time you put reo salt in? If it as been a very long time then i would put more salt in until the light stops flashing

Re: Dishwasher & Washing-Machine Cleaning

Please can someone tell me of a reliable person that can fix a Miele dish washer in Zurich? Our dish washer just broke too! I couldn't see a name/number in this thread. Thank you.

You don't know how difficult this is to write this as a serious post...

Ok, the man has been to fix my dishwasher and put some "stuff" in it to presumably delime it or clean the pipes or something. Having visited the usual sources where I buy dishwasher tablets (other threads refer), I can't identify suitable stuff. Can anyone help with a brand name here ?

Is the same product suitable for use in clothes washing machines ?

Thanx, oh and its a serious question.

We've got a Miele at home, and the name/number of the firm that fixed ours is also at home and I'm at work. Will get back to you tomorrow on this with their coordinates.

This was based on guessing www.miele.ch might exist and then click-click-clicking.....

Re: Dishwasher & Washing-Machine Cleaning

I've read the whole thread and am now fully informed about dishwasher cleaning and operation but still a little vague about whether I should be doing something with the washing machine.

There are some mentions in this thread about vinegar and Durgol - should I be doing a vinegar/Durgol wash every couple of months, to flush out any calc in the system? I've looked at the commercial products that you're supposed to use every time, but they're 3x more expensive than the Migros budget powder I use!

And if I do a bi-monthly vinegar/ Durgol wash, presumably I run an empty cycle just after that, to stop the clothes smelling like a chip shop?

Thanks for any help.

kodokan
