Health realted

Hello everyone..

I don't know how to put this up.. In last week as the weather was cold.. suddenly one night my husband had a bad ear pain and couldn't sleep at all.. we have 13month old son and he was sleeping cosy with me so my husband did not wake me up half of the night. Then when I saw him awake I scolded him as he did not wake me up. I had bought some antibiotic drops back from native place which I used for him. It was hurting him for sometime but then he slept calmly and his ear pain was much better the next day..

Now almost a week later.. Suddenly yester night I had the same ear pain issue.. and couldn't sleep at all.. I also same like my hubby did not wake him initially but when the pain was unbearable I woke him up. The ear drops came in handy again.. Today its much better but it still hurts..

So now my Q is:
- Is this due to weather change? If so then what are other things I can expect?
- While I was in USA, there were seasonal shots/vaccines given to adults/kids there. Are there any such shots given here? If so what are those? and where can I get them?
- IN USA they are given in Pharmacy or by the doctor. they are generally free of cost/covered by insurance. Is it the same here?
- Also what changes can I expect for my son? Anything specific I must do? I have already started vitamin D drops for my son as suggested by Pediatrician.

Thanks for ur replies.
Aarya

Re: Health realted

Aarya, wrt the flu vaccine, which is what I assume you are referring to by a seasonal shot:

The flu vaccine is offered by most GP practices, usually starting in October. Call yours to find out when these will be given.

At the practice I go to the shot is given by a PA, there is no need to see the doctor. You do have to call to make an appointment, though. Some practices might take walk-ins for the shot, again, call to find out what is the norm in your practice.

The flu vaccine is not covered by my insurance but it's only CHF 30 if I remember correctly. Your insurance might differ, check your policy.

I have not seen a US-style 'flu shot drive', where the shot is given by nurses at a grocery stores, libraries, city hall, pharmacies, etc. But I *think* I remember reading an article about some pharmacies here trying this out. Ask locally to see if this is available in your area.

But it might be quicker to call your GP, and likely the cost will be the same.

I'm afraid I can't answer your other questions, hopefully someone who can will be along soon.

Hope the family starts feeling better soon.

And no wonder we have so much antibiotic resistance....

You shouldn't take antibiotics unless subscribed by a doctor and you should follow the whole course.

I bet if your husband hadn't taken anything, his earache would have cleared up anyway.

Re: Health realted

Aarya, 'Nationaler Grippeimpftag' (National Flu Vaccination Day) is 11 November, 2016. On this day you can go to one of the participating general practices (Hauzarzt) without an appointment in order to get the shot. The price is CHF 30.

More here, the website also includes info about the 2016 vaccine:
http://www.impfengegengrippe.ch/de-c...ftag-2016.html

And here:

You can find a participating practice here:
http://www.kollegium.ch/praevention/...g-adressen.php

You can of course get the shot at other times from your own GP, as per my previous post call for information and/or an appointment.

Aarya, why do you tell us your two's ear problems when the questions are completely unrelated to them? Is there something amiss?

it happened just the same way for both of us so I asked.

While I was in US, past years before moving here. Once the weather changed and it was about time for snow to start, one night I suddenly couldn't breathe at all.. had chest pain real bad.. the next morning I was better but then after afternoon I was not even able to get-up from my bed/do anything. literally when my hubby came from office. I couldn't even open the door for him. I had to crawl on the floor and I was in terrible pain. It was all because of the change in weather.

So now the ear pain was a new thing for me and I just went into flashback and got reminded of it. Then I was single. But now I have a baby boy very active. I cannot think of any such thing happening again. SO I thought why not be prepared for it. SO I have asked Queries in my post above.

Thanks.

That antibiotic was for making the ear pain subside. I have completed my course.

My brother is a doctor back at my native place and I have bought medicine after advice from him and taken them accordingly.

Anyway thanks for ur concern.

Re: Health realted

If you have infections etc, do go to a doctor here. A diagnosis at a distance is quite difficult and there may be an underlying cause unknown to you?

Re: Health realted

If you have pain ibuprofen is enough, 30 minutes and you sleep. You shouldn't use antibiotics like that, and they do not remove pain.
I have ear pain every year, usually during the winter, and just take a spiralgin (mefenamic acid) or something similar to help me sleep and it's ok after 2 days.

Re: Health realted

I'm afraid there are some countries that still overuse antibiotics massively- including on medical advice. A disaster in the making, tragically.

Quote:
  • Antibiotic use is a major driver of resistance. In 2010, India was the world’s largest consumer of antibiotics for human health.
  • Access to antibiotics is rising, which portends well for the large proportion of India’s population that has thus far had poor access to these life-saving drugs.
  • The convergence of factors such as poor public health infrastructure, rising incomes, a high burden of disease, and cheap, unregulated sales of antibiotics has created ideal conditions for a rapid rise in resistant infections in India.
  • Over-the-counter, nonprescription sales of carbapenems in India are among the highest in the world and contribute to growing carbapenem resistance among Gram-negative organisms.
  • Improving regulation of drug production and sales, better managing physician compensation, and encouraging behavior change among doctors and patients are of immediate priority.
