A decent streetplan please...!

We were house/flat hunting last month and had difficulties finding our way around the towns and villages in the Knonaueramt due to lack of a streetplan for that area.

We had bought two maps of Zürich - and one of Zürich itself and one of Zürich and the surrounding areas(Region Zürich - Gemeinde Atlas) -only to find out that there´s nothing of the area between Horgen, Zug/Baar, and Affoltern am Albis.

We even asked at bookshops/petrol stations/looked up on the website and the like. No such thing! Dunno how the locals do it there, but short of buying a SatNav, would appreciate it if anyone can give me some help on this matter...

Thanks!

We will be renting in Hausen am Albis in January 2007...

Had a good look. Very impressive but unfortunately doesn´t show anything of the desired area with streetnames on it. How frustrating..!

Thanks nevertheless.....

On the internet: map.search.ch

In Real: Swiss Navigator: http://www.hallwag.ch/shop/produkt-detail/115

Map book with street maps for every town/city in the whole country. I have seen it sold for a bit cheaper too.

Hmm, yes, we did. It´s pretty good actually. Very useful when you are searching for a specific street. Unfortunately we can´t carry the computer around with us..hence still looking for a street map...

Thanks though!

Ha, we actually bought this very map in Affoltern am Albis as a last resort!

Apart from it weighing a ton and costing a bomb - it is very useful for general use BUT despite the shopkeeper saying it covers everything, we looked up Hausen am Albis in it amd found it on page 364 and it only showed a miniscule streetplan (roughly 5cmx5cm) of the centre of the village, not of the whole village. Our street was not on it...

We couldn´t really use it as we couldn´t even follow the street out of the town, cos you would need to look for the next town on a completely different page and you would be lucky if you can find the matching road!

We were not impressed.

Thanks anyway.

Generally you need to print out the map(s) you need for each trip.

Make sure you tick the "Strassenkarte" option to cut out a lot of stuff and get a more useful street map.

Yeah, am thinking of doing that anyway for the area we will be living in. it has sort of hit me that we will be living "out in the sticks" - the lack of a street map says it all LOL!

Cheers!

Re: A decent streetplan please...!

you can try <www.map24.ch> and or <http://www.multimap.com/map/home.cgi?client=public&lang=&advanced=&db=CH>.

I personally prefer map24 over multimap and it seems to have the streets on it, that I needed (had to create a map for some foreign visitors). But I cannot speak for the Zurich area ...
